Today, we celebrated Bengali New Year(Pahela Boishakh)at school//14-04-2025
Hello steemian freinds
This is @saniya9 from #Bangladesh

Pahela Baishakh is an important festival for the Bengali nation and marks the first day of the Bengali New Year. This day is celebrated every year on April 14 in a festive atmosphere. The main tradition of Pahela Baishakh began during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar, when the Bengali calendar was introduced to facilitate the collection of taxes from farmers. Colorful Mangal Shobhajatra (processions) are held in various parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, which has been recognized by UNESCO as a part of the world’s cultural heritage. In rural areas, Baishakhi fairs are held where handicrafts, sweets, folk songs, and puppet shows are presented. Traditional Bengali foods such as Panta Bhat (fermented rice), Hilsa fish, dried shrimp mash, and various types of bhorta (mashed vegetables) hold a special place in the Pahela Baishakh feast. Businessmen open their new accounting books, settling old debts and starting fresh accounts. On this day, everyone dresses in red and white attire to join in the festive joy. Girls adorn themselves in sarees with flowers in their hair, while boys wear panjabis. Folk music, Baul songs, and village music, along with dance performances, are presented at various cultural events. Special programming is broadcast throughout the day on television channels.
I wake up in the morning, freshen up, and get myself neatly ready to head to school. Upon reaching school, I see that the students are also neatly dressed and beautifully prepared to celebrate the Bengali New Year. Then, I approach the students to exchange greetings and we were all waiting together for the arrival of the headmistress. After knowing that it would take some time for the headmistress to arrive, I took some pictures with the students. One student took a few pictures of me, which made us all laugh because the reason for the laughter was that even though I was his teacher, I had asked him to take my picture.
Then I had been chatting with the students for a long time and discussing some necessary matters with all of them. In the meantime, many students started to act cheeky, and I tried to calm them down by explaining things. The students were all playing football in the field, and then our headmistress arrived at the school. After she arrived, we all went to the classroom and sat down. She then gave us a speech and brought some hibiscus flowers from the field. The madam took pictures with us, and I also took a hibiscus flower from her.
After that, all the students participated in a cultural program where some of the girls danced to patriotic songs and songs for Pohela Boishakh. We all enjoyed the cultural program for Pohela Boishakh together.Pahela Baishakh symbolizes the deep tradition and unity of Bengali culture, transcending religion and ethnicity. It is not just a festival but a connection of emotion and tradition in Bengali life. Therefore, the day is celebrated as a joyous and memorable occasion for Bengalis.
"Come, come, come, O Baishakh
With the breath of the scorching wind, let the dying be lifted,
May the year's dirt be removed,
Let the old memories go, let the forgotten songs disappear,
May tears and vapors meet far away.
Let the shame be wiped away, let old age vanish,
May the earth be pure through a fire bath."
