Pencil drawing tutorial: A knight
Greetings, Steemians!
It's truly a pleasure to be here, and I hope all is well and everything is okay. Art is one of the ways I share my inner thoughts with the world, and every drawing I create feels like a journey. I’ve always admired the strength and discipline associated with knights, They symbolise bravery, loyalty, and at the same time humility. I didn’t want to capture one in the heat of battle but rather in a quiet moment, resting his sword and bowing his head. That picture in my imagination became the idea for this drawing, and today, I am excited to share with you my recent pencil artwork of a kneeling knight, a piece that challenged my creativity while also giving me a sense of deep fulfilment. In this post, I will walk you through the process of how I brought this warrior to life with my pencil.
Drawing materials
• A4 paper
• 8B pencil
• HB pencil
• mechanical pencil
• charcoal pencil
• eraser
• sharpener
• black pen
Step-by-step process
Step 1
First, I began by drawing the knight's body; firstly, I used my HB pencil to draw his head and add details as well.
Step 2
Next I moved on to the armour. This part took more time because I wanted the metallic pieces to look realistic. I carefully defined the helmet, shoulder guards, chest plate, and knee guards, breaking them into smaller sections with lines and curves.
Step 3
After doing that, I then drew the knight's hand, one holding the sword and the other on the knee. Then I added details to it.
Step 4
At this point, I then focused on drawing the legs and knee of the knight. Step by step, slowly, I drew the two legs, one in a kneeling position while the other was lying on the ground.
Step 5
The knight’s sword was drawn next, firmly planted in the ground. With the help of my ruler, I kept the blade straight and clean while also drawing the adding depth to the ground on which he was standing.
Step 6
Finally, with my 2B pencil, I darkened areas under the helmet, arms, and cloak to give the figure weight and depth. I used the eraser gently on the armour to create highlights, showing where light might strike the metal. The pen helped define the darkest sections, especially under the cloak and on the sword handle, and now my drawing is finally complete.
A selfie of me and my drawing
This artwork reminded me how powerful simple tools can be in the hands of creativity. With just pencils, a pen, and paper, I was able to capture a moment of stillness in the life of a knight. The kneeling pose speaks of humility, strength, and reflection. Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. I hope my kneeling knight inspires you, and I can’t wait to share more of my pencil artworks with you here on Steemit.
