Change

Everyone must have a life journey full of learning and change. I also had a valuable experience that changed the way how I dressed and understanding the importance of covering my body in better ways. In my past, l used to dress the opposite way in accordance with Islamic teachings, such as wearing pants and short hijab. I felt comfortable with it because l thought it already covered my body that time. Until one day, l just uploaded a photo of me wearing pants and a short hijab which it did not cover my chest on my media social publicly. l felt confident with my appearance at that time and I did not think that my clothes were still not in accordance with religious guidance.
However, after a while, there was a teacher who l really respected, gave me a very gentle and meaningful advice. She commented on my photo by saying. “The photo is very beautiful and better if Savara did not wear pants and wear the other hijab that covered the chest, because that is aurat, even thought it is already covered by the clothes.”. The advice really touched my heart deeply. l pondered she words and realized that what she said was not just criticism, but also a form of care and affection. Since then, l began to learn more about the importance of covering the aurat according to Islamic law. I looked for references from various sources, read about more Syariah clothing, and tried to understand the true meaning of dressing in Islam. The change did not happen instantly, but slowly I began to change the way l dressed before. I chose to wear looser clothes, long skirts and long dress, and a longer hijab to cover my chest more.
I felt a little awkward at first because this was something new to me. However, I felt incredible peace and comfort in dressing according to Islamic teachings as time went by l also began to get support from my family and friends, they were very happy for me.
Now, l realized that dressing more syar’I is not only about covering the body, but also as a from of obedience to Allah. In addition, l feel more appreciated not only because of my appearance, but also because of how l carry my self better. I’am grateful for the advice that given by my teacher, because without it, I might not have realized how important it is to dress more modestly and in accordance with religious guidance. This journey has taught me that good changes often start from a sincere advice sincere intentions. I hope this experience can inspire other people to be get know more about the importance of covering the aurat properly. This awareness is not just change in dress, but also a from of improvement in living a life that is more in accordance with Islamic values.
