Before I start, permit me to give a shout out to my mentor @alexanderpeace for bringing us here under the heading Stories, learnings and reflections. The title of my story is Oh No! What a picture?

From the topic, one could picture a very wise individual who has lived for several years then sat back to look at his or her past life only to discover that he/she has been living a wasteful life. In this very situation, it is the story of a woman who lived in my neighborhood. She had no child and no husband despite how beautiful she was as an advanced woman.

I always wonder how beautiful she was if she looked like that during old age so I decided to ask my grandmother why the woman had no child since records holds that they were best of friends during their youthful age till date.
Grandma Said, "My son, most people do not realize the value of what they have until they lose it ooo" Amaka was one of the most beautiful girls during our time. With her deep brown skin, sharp intelligent eyes, coupled with smiles that could melt the hardest heart, she was every young man's dream when compared to her friends.

At the age of 19, suitors lined up in her father's compound seeking Amaka's hand in marriage but Amaka's refused all of them because, she had a picture of a perfect guy he would love to merge with.

Amaka concluded in her heart that her husband had to be very tall, dark and with broad shoulders. In addition to this physical structure, that the husband had to be wealthy, not from her tribe, highly educated to the level of a PHD and most importantly must be the first son to his family.

Amaka was so much desperate and eager to meet a man who would love her just as she wanted to be loved and Anything other than that, she was not interested.
Grandma mentioned that One Emma a medical doctor came to marry her but she refused saying that he was not tall. Akpan a tall and good looking came but she refused saying that his English was bad. Years passed and the suitor began to decline as the day passes by. Some got married, while others stopped coming but Amaka still remain strong and hopeful while gaining age. She would always tell herself that the right man would come her way when the time is due.

At the age of thirty-five, nature was no longer smiling at Amaka, yet she was still hopeful and attending church programs like never before. At this point in time, all her friends had gotten married but Amaka was still hoping. On many occasions, she took offense over her mom for always advising her to settle down.

Things became worse at the age of forty when loneliness started moving into her life. Despite this, Amaka still affirm to herself that she would rather be single than to settle for a man outside her spec.

Sadly enough, no one appreciated her beauty again and no real suitor came her way until she was 50 plus. One day, Amaka began to wonder about her past. Oh no! What a picture was what she exclaimed when she realized that she had wasted lots of opportunities and good men who are currently living with their families and children

One day, she attended an event with the hope of meeting a man that would give her attention. Unluckily or luckily, she met her old suitor who came asking her hand in marriage working with wife, children and grandchild. At this point Amaka began to feel a sharp pain and that made her cry seriously. For the very first time after years, Amaka began to feel pain in her chest, not regret so to say, but realization.

She came to realize that there was more to marriage than mere spec. She realized that love was never a function of height, money, complexion or kindness but a function of kindness, patience, understanding and growing together. It was at this point that she came to realize that she had spent years chasing dreams.

This story thought me that true love was never designed to be perfect.
