This was me few days ago during one of my clinical presentations at a community pharmacy. I'm a Medical Representative and my job entails that I have a routine meeting and clinical presentation in hospitals and pharmacies in order to keep educating our healthcare providers on topics relating to healthcare especially drugs.

I was actually sensitizing and educating these pharmacists on the use of antibiotics. The rate of antimicrobial resistance in our community is so alarming. A lot of microorganisms have developed resistance to so many antibiotics we have out there. Most times I often ask, "who do we blame?" They drug manufacturers? Perhaps they are substandard? The patients? Probably they didn't adhere to the prescription by the doctor? Or the doctor who didn't get the right prescription dosage?

Truth be told, all these factors play vital roles in antimicrobial resistance. Most of the antibiotics we have are not up to standard when taken to the laboratory for analysis. If only the regulatory agencies are doing their work, most of these manufacturers are supposed to spend the remaining part of their lives in jail. People taking such substandard antibiotics will often not get the desired result because the active product ingredients alleged to be present is not complete.

Sometimes, taking drugs can be overwhelming. Some people once they start feeling better will just ditch their medications aside. Antibiotics once prescribed by the doctor ought to be taken till the last dose except if the doctor says otherwise due to some adverse effect or some underlying health condition.

Doctors also, when they didn't get the right prescription especially te dosing, could also result to antimicrobial resistance.
Antimicrobial stewardship demands that a lower class antibiotics be first line of treatment for microorganisms that are susceptible to that antibiotics. But most times that is not the case as you see some healthcare providers prescribing a much more higher antibiotics even when lab result shows that the microorganism is susceptible to a lower class antibiotics.

If you're a patient, please ensure to take your complete dose of medication unless your doctor request your discontinue your mediation. If you're into pharmaceutical productions, please ensure you formulate and manufacture good quality drugs.
I you're a healthcare provider, please ensure you follow the antimicrobial stewardship.

I'm inviting my friends @vickyson @deelyt and @ashley-p to also participate in this contest.
