MAKE THE MOST OF YOURSELF. I Drew A Week's Worth OF COURAGE ON TWO NOTEBOOK PAGES..
When I picked up my pencil and notebook for the context prove yourself best artist for the week I don't just want to draw something beautiful, but I wanted to tell a story that drawing is more than lines and colors it is a picture of what it means to prove yourself even in little ways. Using what I have (tool) within my reach.
Below is a made up but a (true to heart) journey of this drawing. Starting from the first shaky circle to the last red dot of confidence, so you can follow the process and the meaning.
MATERIALS USED
- Pencil for layout
- Red Pen
- Blue pen
- Board marker
- Eraser
- Razor blade
- Regular School Notebook (which the lines on it became part of the aesthetic).
HOW I STARTED
I began with the first right page, before diving into the real drawing, i warmed up with quick scribble ovals in pencil, blue and red pen and board marker they may look messy, but represent practice the rough beginning every artist need before creating meaningful something.
THE STORY BEHIND THE DRAWING
I pictured an artist facing a giant capsule in a floating pod stuffed with many clouds, cracked earth and blazing red sun in the centre around the artist our familiar objects found everyday use (a stool, cup, kettle and a table)why because proof doesn't happen in fancy studios, but happens everywhere you are. On the other page quick scribble ovals this is my warm up and a visual reminder that practice is loud and imperfect. the big red letters along the margin echo's the challenge PREVIOUS YOURSELF BEST.
MEANING OF EACH ELEMENT
- WARM UP OVALS:- the practice is public let people see it.
- CAPSULE:- is a container for week's goal clear enough to aim at, go big enough to scare you.
- CLOUDS:- is for dreams and imaginations.
- CRACKED GROUND:- is for the struggles and challenges.
- RED SUN:- is bold and bright as a symbol of proof and courage.
- EVERYDAY OBJECTS:- life doesn't pause for art but art grows inside life.
PALETTE DABS:- the tools you need are already in hand use what you have.
LAST TRUTH
drawing isn't all about being perfect, it is about showing up, practicing and proving yourself one step at a time.
In the end I wrote the contest title bold "Proof yourself best" reason been that at the end of the day the real proof is not in the trophy 🏆 it is in the daring to create, to try out and to keep showing up always.
