A Cup of Friendship at a Coffee Shop

That afternoon, the cloudy sky hung over our small town. As usual, I and some old friends gathered at our favorite coffee shop, a simple place on the corner of the street surrounded by the sound of vehicles and casual laughter. The shop is not a fancy place, just a long wooden bench and a table whose paint is starting to peel. But that's where many of our stories were born and our laughter grew.

That day I came early. I leaned my back against the wall and ordered a cup of my favorite black coffee. Not long after, one by one my friends arrived. There was the quiet Rian, Dani who always had a funny story, and Faiz who had just come home from out of town. The conversation just flowed, discussing work news, family, and school days that always managed to make us laugh.

When the coffee started to arrive one by one, I suddenly felt moved to pay for everything. Not because I had a lot of money, but because my heart felt warm seeing that we could still sit together, even though time and busyness often separated us. I called Bang Jo, the owner of the stall, and whispered, "I'll pay for all the coffee, okay Bang. Don't tell anyone yet."

Of course, when they were about to pay and knew that everything had been paid in full, their faces were full of questions. I just smiled and said, "Just think of it as a treat because we can still have coffee together." They laughed, pretending to protest, but I knew they were happy.

Sometimes, happiness is simple—like a cup of coffee and the laughter of friends in the afternoon. It's not about the money, but about appreciating the moment that might never happen exactly like this again. And that day, I learned one thing: paying for a friend's coffee is not just about treating them, but about celebrating a friendship that continues to warm even as the world changes.
