The Diary Game: 13/07/2025/ WITNESSING NEW YAM FESTIVAL

A lovely day to all steemfams out there, I trust we're still keeping our hopes and expectations high.

I'm a big fan of nollywood movies(little likeness for epic though) but in most of the epic movies, I always come across scenes were new yam festival is being celebrated, welcoming the Igbo people which is one of the majority tribe in my country, Nigeria to a new year. A colleague told me that if it isn't done that way, then new yam can't be sold in the market and this yams can be sold two eke market days after the new yam festival celebration.

Yesterday was Sunday and I didn't miss church. I got up just in time to prepare and I'm glad I made it there in time too even though I wasn't there when the opening prayer was said😌.Service went well and i want to believe everyone went home with a thing or two to meditate on.

Getting back from church, I had my breakfast as I couldn't eat before leaving to church and then swept fallen leafs in the compound so I could burn it along side my trash which refused to burn because of how wet it was.

I went inside to rest for a while but it was cut short as I recieved a call from my boss that he was coming to pick me . I rushed to prepare even though I knew I needed to sleep, I didn't want to miss the occasion.

Just like flash my boss arrived leaving me with little time to prepare and having me look like a shadow 🙆, I didn't really care because I knew I wasn't going for a beauty pageant.

We got to the venue but I had no opportunity of getting inside to see what was really happening, all I did was stay in the vehicle and enjoy the little that passed by way, it was really a sight. The number of people that turned up for tge event needs to be studied.

We didn't go home immediately after the event rather my boss took my colleagues and I to one of the prominent men's home and we were served. We had a lovely time there and i got to learn new things about the culture of where I sm opportuned to serve.

In as much as I am a Christian, I believe some unique tradition should not be completely erased off the surface of the Earth and I recommend this tribe for still upholding their tradition.
