Let's talk about HIV
I'm a healthcare provider who provides services to HIV and hepatitis clients. When a client come to the facility and come into the testing and counseling room we welcome that person and asks why the person is in that section and when the person tell us that he is here for tested for HIV testing what we do is engaged to engaged that person to ask what his or her knowledge is about HIV. Some people practically will tell you what they know about HIV is when you touch the person that is HIV positive you will contact the virus some we say HIV is a killer disease, some we say if you use the same spoon or you lay down on the same bed with a person that is HIV positive you will contact the virus and some we say if you take care of somebody that is HIV positive, a lot of things people say concerning contacting HIV and after we hear all from the person then we tell them how one can contact HIV.
WAYS IN WHICH ONE CAN CONTACT HIV 1) Through blood transfusion 2) Through been intimate with someone without using protection. 3) Through sharing of unsterilized sharp objects 4) Through mother to Child.
HIV is not a killer disease like people are saying it HIV is a virus that have drugs, the drugs does not cure HIV but it's suppress the virus that is when taking the drugs it will weaken the virus so that you won't be able to transmit to another person. We also have what we call VIRAL LOAD we collect viral load samples when someone is on drugs for 6 months when the person come back for his/her refill then we take that person's blood sample for viral load. Why is vara load important is to 1) Monitor treatment that is the effectiveness of Anti-retroviral therapy (ART) 2) To predicting disease progression 3) Assessing transmission risk: a lower viral load reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
