The Diary Game Season 3 [ Tuesday June 10th, 2025 ] Skipping breakfast: A common habit with me
Greetings Steemit friends,
Most of the time, we kick off our day with an empty stomach. I often ask myself why this is the case for me, starting most of my mornings without breakfast. While many people see breakfast as the most important meal of the day, there are several reasons why some of us skip it.
I do not always have the time to eat in the morning. It usually takes a lot of effort to prepare breakfast, especially when I'm rushing from one thing to another. During school periods, for example, I have to drop the kids off and still get to the office on time. When I mention this, someone might say, Then wake up earlier. But I can recall many times when I woke up early and still did not feel like eating.
I rarely have an appetite in the morning, something I believe many people can relate to. Some of us do not feel like eating right after waking up, and it is not limited to mornings. Even after an afternoon nap, I may not want to eat. That is why it is called breakfast, because we are breaking the fast from a long night of sleep.
You would think that after so many hours without food, one would feel hungry in the morning. But that is not always the case. Some people even use skipping breakfast as a strategy for weight loss. I do not have much to say about that, since it is not my reason. However, I have noticed that skipping breakfast can slow me down, especially if I did not eat well the previous night.
Although I have been skipping breakfast, I do not believe it is a good habit. Unless you have a strong reason. I know of people whose medical conditions or medication schedules make it necessary to delay or skip meals. And let’s not forget religious fasting. The funny thing is, if I’m told to fast the next day, I will start feeling hungry by 5 AM. But on a regular day, I can go all morning without eating and feel just fine. LOL.
Health practitioners often remind us that breakfast is a key meal. It is like fueling your car for a long trip, your body needs energy to stay active all day. I will keep working on making breakfast a regular part of my routine.
How my day went. Skipping breakfast this morning prompted me to reflect on this whole topic. I woke up early and started checking my phone. I took my bath and got ready for work. Since the kids are on holiday, I did not need to drop them off at school. I left the house early and headed to the office. Again, no breakfast, and I did not even think about preparing something.
When I got to the office, I set up my desk and reviewed my to-do list. We’re already halfway through the year, so I checked our client list and did some updates, categorizing clients into groups. This helped me sort out those who owed the company and others who needed to be removed from the list.
By midday, I was super hungry. That is when I remembered I had not eaten anything all morning. I did not hesitate, I went straight to look for food. There is a local restaurant nearby that prepares good meals. Luckily, the lady still had food.
I ordered Garri and Eru. Garri is what Nigerians would call Eba, made from cassava. I was so hungry that I finished the meal in less than ten minutes. It reminded me of something a colleague once said he thought he was sick, but after eating, he realized it was just hunger.
I returned to the office and finished the work I was doing. I also had a chat with a potential client who asked for a quotation with different price options. I sent it and then rounded off the day by emailing reminders to clients whose hosting plans were almost due.
I closed for the day and headed home. Thankfully, I did not need to prepare dinner. What I had for lunch was more than enough to keep me going through the night. I tried to go online, but the internet was slow and the pages wouldn’t load. That was discouraging, so I just went to bed and called it a day.
Cheers
