Taking Responsibility for Your Actions

in Steem Cameroon2 days ago

Steem greetings, guys from the motherland, Cameroon, and welcome to my blog as I share a different dynamic about taking responsibility for your actions. I have noticed nowadays people do not want to take responsibility for their actions, but rather seek sympathy from others whenever they make bad decisions that affect them negatively.

Everyone is certainly going through some shit in their lives but most often do not acknowledge the fact that it is due to the consequences of their actions and work towards a better you. They would rather shift the blame and be dishonest with themselves. I got the inspiration to write this post after watching the movie “Straw” by Tyler Perry. To me, Janiyah failed to take full responsibility and rather apportioned blame to seek sympathy from society.

In essence, taking responsibility means someone to acknowledging that what they are going through is a result of their mistakes, their bad behaviour and the bad decisions they make without blaming anyone for their misfortunes in life. It entails honesty, whether in a positive or negative outcome.

Some Important Points to Note When Faced with Setbacks in Life

The following are some key points to be considered when faced with setbacks.

Be Accountable: In every situation you find yourself, own up to your actions in either failure or success because it’s only when you own up to your actions that you will stop seeking sympathy. By owning up, you acknowledge your actions and work for the betterment of your life.
Self-awareness: In anything you do, remember the impact of your choices on others and the outcomes.
Mindset of Growth: Do not blame yourself when you make mistakes in life; rather, see mistakes as a learning opportunity for a better life ahead.

Why it is Important to Take Responsibility for Your Actions

Taking responsibility for your actions is necessary because of the following;

  • It helps to build trust, and you become more independent in your life and trustworthy.
  • It opens room for learning, especially when you acknowledge your mistakes. It opens doors for self-growth and development.
  • Taking responsibility promotes respect and strengthens your relationship in both personal and also in professional situations.
  • It helps you improve on your decision making as you reflect on your past actions, which helps to guide you to make better choices in future.
Why People Shy Away from Taking Responsibility

These reasons might not apply to everyone because we find ourselves in different life scenarios. From my personal experience, I think these are some of the reasons why people do not take responsibility for their actions.

Fear of what society will say about them: Many are bothered about the judgment the people will say about them, and they turn to apportion blame. The more you bother about what people will say or think about you, you lose your growth mindset.
Pride and Ego: They think acknowledging their mistakes will cause them to lose self-esteem and control.
Toxic Environment: Some people do not want to take responsibility due to the toxic people around them. They feel owning up to their mistakes will be used against them.

Some Ways to Acknowledge Your Actions
  • I would advise that we should always reflect on our past actions and consider the results of our actions before taking future ones.
  • Do not blame others for your failures, but rather use your failures as a learning opportunity for a better tomorrow.
  • Apologise whenever you make mistakes and sincerely acknowledge your faults without apportioning blame.
