Empower Yourself and Work according to the Rules: 12/08/2021
Hello everyone on steemit and welcome to my blog. It’s another exciting day, and I’m so glad, ready to continue with my fight for vulnerable women. I got up from bed at about 5:30am, I had to do my normal routine of morning house chores. I first had to thank my creator for protection and guidance. Later on went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family. After I was done with breakfast, I had to bath my daughter and prepared her for classes.
At about 8:00am, I was done and ready for work. I always have love for vulnerable persons and will always go extra miles to protect them. So today is one of those days I had to go out and do sensitisation through the media. Today I had to present a summary of our previous discussions on radio concerning gender based violence. Subsequently in the program, I had to open our telephone lines to receive calls from listeners and equally survivors of gender based violence.
One of the callers called and keeps blaming survivors of rape as being the caused of the violent act towards them. I had to clarify him with emphasis on the laws put in place to protect vulnerable persons especially women. I went further to let him know that there is no justification of a violent act, and the law considered such acts as intentional. Thus, without the intention, an offender cannot commit the act of rape and blames the survivor for his intentions. It is the intention that provoked the action. The caller was bent at blaming survivors of rape, so I had to ask him a questions that since he puts the blame on girls poorly dressed up, what about women of the ages of over 60 we recorded their cases raped in the presence of her kids and husband? Was it because the woman was poorly dressed up? Equally men during soccer put on sexy wears and some in our local soccer games in the quarters play without putting on a t-shirt. Why is it that they also do not think it can affect women also to perpetrate rape act on men?
The caller was unable to answer all the concerns raised, and laughed, and dropped the call. My program on the radio ended at about 10:00am. I decided to take a walk back to the office.
While on my way back to the office, my colleague told me that we should see one of the religious leaders we have been working with to continue with our sensitisation program. We called the religious leader, and he asked us to call him the next day. I decided to go to a library around town to do more research on human rights. While at the library I realised that it’s been long, and nobody has visited the library. What baffles me is the fact that it’s a library focus on human rights books and even the workers there do not even use the library. Everywhere was dusty, I could not seat there to study, and I requested to sign out some books and bring them back since I could not study there. To my greatest dismay, they told me categorically that they do not sign out books, that I can only read there. I had to just take what I wanted, screenshot the necessary pages, and left the place.
I left the library at about 1:00pm, and head back to the office. I have an upcoming workshop to train GBV case managers. I have to write requisition of funds and submit for my boss. I completed it at about 4:00pm. Since I had no break, I decided to close since I had to come back and cook. Everything was ready in the fridge, so I had to use lesser time to prepare the food. I served the meal at 5:30pm.
We ate together, and I relaxed a bit, took my shower, and went to bed. Thanks for reading through and do not forget to hit the comment section in case you have any worries concerning GBV.
Violence in any form is a crime.
@veryna not disputable that is why we preach tolerance. People need to understand that your ideas might not necessarily be my ideas and what you like might be what I do not like but if we can learn to tolerate, then violence will not be an option.
