Your Conscience, Your Compass

in Project HOPE8 days ago

There is no doubt to the fact that the world is already getting full of distractions, conflicting voices, temptations, and cruelty is on the rise, but the human conscience has remained one of our most powerful inner tool to stay afloat in this world. Your conscience is like a directional compass that helps you to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad, helping to guide your thoughts and actions towards the good paths of life. When you allow your conscience to lead you, you will find ease in living a life of integrity, which also makes for the fulfilment of purpose.

Just to let you know, your conscience is like the tiny, still, and distinct voice right within you that reacts or guides you through making moral decisions. It tells you when you are doing good or bad. It also tells you whether the choice you want to make is geared towards the right path or wrong path. The truth is, conscience is inherent and inbuilt in every human. But why you see people doing unthinkable things and many evil act is that they have constantly ignored their conscience, played down on it, and kept pushing it asides for their selfish gain or for convenience. This makes it to lose its power and ultimately, their conscience becomes seared. To tell you sincerely, you will find more peace and fulfilment when you follow your conscience than when you want to go against it.

To allow your conscience to become your compass in life is to let it guide you through the course of your life and will help you when you are faced with difficult decisions to make. There are times that you may want to do something, maybe when influenced by people or by your desires and you know that it is not the right thing to do. It is your conscience that will help you to stand your ground and do what is right. Following your conscience also requires being truthful to yourself and the willingness to accept that the demands to do the right thing for the sake of humanity supersedes your selfish desires.

I have come to discover that when you follow the dictates of your conscience, you will be better, and you will earn respect from people as they will see you as someone with integrity, trust, and with high moral standards. It does not mean that you are not faced with the temptation to do what is wrong, but it means that you can stand your ground and do what is right. If people know that you will choose to be right even when it means that you are standing alone, they will not have difficulty trusting you, and they will also entrust things in your hands. Everyone may be given a conscience, but you are the one that will determine if you will allow your own to guide you as a compass or not.

It is worthy to note that conscience does not only come in handy when you want to make a big decision. It also comes into play in our day-to-day activities and when making seemingly small choices. For example; saying the truth when it looks like telling lies will be easier, returning an extra change when you are mistakenly overpaid, standing by the side of justice even if you are not the direct beneficiary, etc. All these are part of what you do to reflect a strong conscience, which also helps you to build a good character. More so, there is a level of peace and calmness that is released in your mind when you know that you have done the best you can to act rightly.

Trust me, there are times that it may look like it will be easier to do wrong than to stand by the side of truth. It is in moment like this that you will prove the strength of your conscience. It does not mean that you are perfect but it demands that you maintain rightness even when no one is watching. It may not be easy, especially when a lot of enticing things might be presented to you, or maybe you need to evade a punishment, but at the end, it will be worth it. It is far better to suffer the temporary hardness of standing by the side of rightness than to enjoy the temporary pleasure of tilting towards what is wrong.
