Turn The Page Over

in Project HOPE3 days ago

Life is almost entirely full of chapters - the end of one page leads to the opening of a new page. Just the same way one exit is an entrance into another place, life is also full of chapters and pages. You may have experienced some good phase, and some really not-so-good phase in the past and it also made way for the good phase. The truth is, just like the pages of a book flips over, any phase you find yourself in life also passes, so as to give way to a new phase - which, by virtue of hope, we believe will be better than the previous. This is why, if things are not going in a way you deem as good, then you have to flip over to the next phase of life as you would do to a book.

One of the major undoings of a lot of people is that they hold on to a particular phase of their life, probably something in the past, for too long, and it has stagnated them and made them not to see the possibilities that lie both in the present and in the future. Progress in life requires that you do not hold on to the past, and that you turn a new page. If you hold on too long to what has passed, you may not access what is yet to come. Even if the past was good, you have to celebrate and then move on, but do not dwell too much and hold on to it, because the future can be better. Than if the past was not good, still move on from it, because the future can be good.

It is worthy to note that endings are not the finish line, but they are openings to a new beginning. I remember when I finished from my mandatory internship when I was in school some years back, it looked so painful because I was going to miss my colleagues, the people I met there, and the acquaintances I had made in the organisation. However, I still needed to go because it will open up a new and better chapter in my life. It was a very necessary decision to make and I have to make it. If you keeping re-reading the same chapter of a book, you will not see the beauty in other chapters.

In your school for example, if you stay longer than you should in a particular class, everyone will regard you as a failure. No matter how much you love the teachers in the class, you will still have to leave them and move on. In life, no matter what the past presents to you in order to entice you, do not hold on to it, it cannot be compared to what you stand to gain in the future. If you are driving a car for example, if you keep focusing on the back while trying to move forward, you may crash the car. What the past serves is to teach relevant lessons so as to make it easier to welcome the challenges of both the present and the future.

You have to understand that life does not end because an era ended. When you have this mentality, it will open you up to the possibilities that life has to offer. Before a seed turns into a tree, it must first encounter the soil, and be turned apart by the process of germination. The breaking apart of the seed may look like an end to it, but it is actually the beginning of growth itself. What you see as a bad experience may actually be what will set the pace for the next chapter of your life - so do not crack at the presence of challenges.

Turning the page does not mean completely forgetting what has happened or denying the obvious, but it is about setting your mind to look beyond it and not dwell on it. No matter how much you dwell on what happened in the past, you can neither change it nor override it. What you have to do is to learn from it, gather enough experiences, and then walk into the future with the hopes to embrace the infinite possibilities in it.
