The Power Of Having A Curious Mind

in Project HOPE9 days ago

One of the things that I have observed is that curiosity is one of the most powerful tools for growth, personal development, innovation, and lifelong learning. A curious mind is always ready and quick to ask questions, know more, explore new things, and understand why things happen. When it comes to education and to learning, curiosity is an indispensable factor that facilitates it. Without wanting to know more, you may not know more. You need curiosity to gain deep understanding of life and also enhance your learning of new things.

A few days back, I was doing a particular task and one of my nieces came and asked me what I was doing and I told her. She went a bit and came back and still asked me questions about it, and she was interested in the task. She asked why I was doing it, then I explained to her that it was related to my workplace. She kept asking questions about it, so I took time to explain to her what it was, why I was doing it, how it was done, and details about it. A few day later, the mum also got similar task from her workplace. She was almost stuck at it, but my niece came in and told her mum that she saw Uncle Sam doing it. She explained to the mum how she would do it, and she got it done well. She was able to learn it extensively because she was curious to know about it and it led her to know more. Power of the curious mind.

It is worthy to note that, unlike cramming and memorizing facts in order to pass exams, the true learning process begins with the mind that is curious. I have come to realise that when someone is genuinely interested in a particular topic, they will not be forced or even encourage to want to know more about it. As a matter of fact, they will be naturally drawn to engage in it, explore it, and learn more about it. This internal motivation is better than external motivation because it will lead to better observation, enhanced creativity and a deeper understanding of the subject matter. It was the curiosity of humankind about the space that led to astro travels and exploration of outer space, including the moon landing.

Curiosity can open doors for someone, because it will break the boundaries of what you already know and will make you to explore new territories. A lot of the most amazing and mind-blowing inventions that the world has ever seen came out of the mind of curiosity that will not settle for the status quo. That things are going in a particular way does not mean that it should continue that way. When you become curious to discover new things or better ways of doing things, you will be surprised how possibilities abound.

In this world that is changing quickly and new tends emerge, the need for curiosity becomes increased. It is true that information can be gotten anywhere, but to get the right knowledge and to meaningfully apply it, you need curiosity. To grow and to develop in the world where a lot of things, including technologies, are emerging, you need to have a curious mind. More so, to adapt and evolve, you also need a level of curiosity. This is why you have to develop a mindset that always seeks to know more and look beyond what lies within. As a curious student, you will not stop learning even after graduation. Rather you will become a lifelong learner and ever growing in skills and knowledge.

I have also noticed that curiosity increases one's confidence. When you are curious about a subject matter, you will not feel shy or scared to ask relevant questions about it. More so, it also makes you to dare to do things that you have never done without the fear of making mistakes or not getting it right. This makes you to see each day, everyone, and every moment as opportunity to learn something new. The curious mind never settles for the present, they will always look forward to what tomorrow holds.
