Consistency And Continuity: Bridging Between Goals And Success

in Project HOPE18 days ago

Some years back, one of my friends started a snail farming business. At the start of the business, he did not have the support that he thought he would need. Even the government programme that he attended, which promised to lend a helping hand did not come through for him. So he decided to start with what he had. It was a bold step for him and giant stride. He started about 5 years ago, and maintained consistency. He was committed to what he was doing. At the present moment, his snail farm is the largest in the community, and people even come from other places to buy from him. What gave him the breakthrough was consistency. When you are consistent in what you do, then success is attainable.

In simple terms, consistency is doing the right thing in the right way continually and repeatedly. When you want to fall down a tree with an axe and you stike it the first time, it is most likely that it will not fall. So if you stike just once and conclude that the tree will not fall and you give up, the tree will not fall. But if you keep striking continually and repeatedly, it will eventually fall. In the same way in life, when you have a goal or an idea of what you want to achieve, then you should put action. But just an action may not be sufficient to bring the goal, but it should be repeated over time.

It is worthy to note that a lasting and good success is not achieved automatically or by doing something just once, but systematically by doing it over time. One of the reasons why some people have not succeeded in their field of endeavour; business, career, etc, is not because they do not have brilliant ideas nor because they have not acted on it, but because they lack consistency. Gaining mastery over something does not come overnight. It is by practising consistently that one can attain a state of perfection.

I once read about Ronaldo and some of the feats he has achieved in the world of football. While he was in Real Madrid, there was this particular freekick technique that he gained mastery of. In fact, he was so good that he would score at near impossible angles and distances. When he was asked about the technique, he revealed that he had practised it for a very long period of time. His consistency and continuity made him to gain mastery. He may be talented, but it does not take away the need for practice and continuity. If you rely so much on your talent alone or just doing something once and expecting all the result you can get, then you may be very limited.

A lot of the good things of life do not answer to luck. It is true that luck can happen, but it will be better and will make more sense when it meets you actively engaged in what you are doing. You will agree with me that when you have tried something over and again and have become so good at it, you will have a level of confidence when you are called up to do the same thing. In order to achieve your goals and to get success, then you have to be ready for consistency. If you watch bodybuilders get the big muscle mass, you will know that they did not achieve it under one day but they have to be consistent in lifting weights for times and again, including other exercises.

If you have not gotten the result that you want, it may not be because you are not doing the right thing. It may just be that you need to keep at it. A lot of people that you see who have achieved success in various aspects of life's endeavours did not become successful overnight, but they had to keep doing what they were doing and kept putting the right actions towards it until they became successful. If you will also employ consistency, then success will be attainable.

A lot of us actually want to achieve goals but the issue is that a lot of us did not really want to pay the price to achieve our goals and so we remain at the spot of only wishing for our goals

It is by paying the price of consistency and continuity that the goal is achieved.
