Do I really need it? A question that saves a lot

in Project HOPE4 days ago

Hello Project HOPE friends, good day everyone. Today I want to share with you a reflection that may seem simple, but it has a huge impact on our daily lives: planning our expenses.

We live surrounded by advertising, social media that constantly shows us things we “need”, and a culture that often pushes us to spend without thinking. The truth is, yes, there are many things we want to buy: a new phone, a better refrigerator, for some, that gadget everyone uses, or simply going out to eat without thinking twice. But it's one thing to want and quite another to need.**

Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing to treat yourself once in a while; I think we all deserve it, especially if we work hard. But when indulgences become a habit and there's no plan behind what we do with our money, that's when problems begin. Sometimes we buy things on impulse, and then, when it comes time to pay a big bill, we realize the money was spent on things that weren't a priority. And the worst part is that, no matter how small those purchases seem, they pile up.

Personally, it's happened to me more than once. I think it's happened to all of us. That's why I learned (and continue to learn) to be more organized. It's not a matter of being stingy, but rather of being clear about what's truly necessary. What adds value to my life? What can wait? Making a monthly budget helps a lot, but more than that, it helps to be aware that not every wish has to be fulfilled immediately. Sometimes putting off a purchase is the wisest course of action, and when you can finally make it without breaking the bank, it feels so much better.

Planning also allows us to have a small cushion for unforeseen events, which always arise. An illness, a home repair, a family emergency. We can't always control what happens, but we can be a little more prepared if we manage what we have well.

So if you're thinking about treating yourself, great! Just ask yourself first if it's the best time. Sometimes, the best thing we can buy ourselves is peace of mind. Best regards, and have a great day.
