Why are governments pushing adoption of EVs?

in Project HOPE7 days ago

Greetings friends!

These days governments worldwide are pushing people to adopt to Electric vehicles (EVs). This is being done in the name of conservation of environment. According to so called experts and governments EVs are capable of reducing carbon footprint as they run on clean energy. But is this really true?

We know that EVs run on electricity and they emit no gases while driving. But, in reality they are more pollutant than their fossil fuel running vehicles. EV motors need cobalt, nickel like elements whose extraction from mines need more energy and they are more harmful for environment. Their batteries need lithium which requires destruction of forest lands and tons of water to extract it. So, basically making of EVs contribute more in pollution than the traditional vehicles. Also, electricity is not generated in the air. It requires burning of fossil fuel to generate electricity. Many argue that we can produce electricity by using nuclear power and solar plants. But nuclear power plants require rare elements like Uranium and thorium. There waste is very very hazardous which is very difficult to dispose off.

Solar power plants require acquisition of land masses. These plants are established on lands for which trees and shrubs are cut down. They also require safety from wild animals and small creatures. Thus they are not so good for the environment. Hydroelectric power plants means death to rivers and

In short there is no shortcut available for us. There is no way which we may termed as the safest for environment. Fossil fuel is the best so far unless we may find its suitable alternative. Despite of knowing all such facts it is very surprizing that the governments are pushing EVs. In India, government is bent of pushing EVs. It is giving lots of tax benefits to the makers and owners of EVs while discouraging vehicles that run on fossil fuels. One thing may be the government's intention to cut importing of oil as India expends so much on its import. Other thing may be that the members of the governments have vested interest on pushing EVs. They want people to buy new vehicles in order to increase sells of new vehicles. So, the intention behind this is purely based on economic factor. It has nothing to do with environment. Everything is being done for the sake of money. These millionaire ministers are not changing their ways to cut carbon emission. In fact, by making old vehicles obsolete they are contributing more on carbon emission. That's it.
