Why Your Body Needs Sunlight (and How Much Is Too Much)
Sometimes we don't even know that there are something's that are really beneficial to our health but we don't know. For me personally, I have come to discover the power of sunlight not quite long. I have always read it in biology and other textbook about the importance of sunlight. But as I grew older and continue to gain more knowledge, I begin to see the need of sunlight for our body. But also, there is side effect when it is too much.
Sunlight as we all know it to be honest beyond just giving us brightness or probably just helping plants to grow. It actually goes beyond that. Sunlight for the body helps the body to function in a lot of aspect that we least think about. Starting from the benefits of sunlight to our body, it helps to release vitamin D to our body when the rays coming from the sun penetrate our skin, it gives us that vitamin D which helps to give us healthy bones and teeth.
Vitamin D is one of the vitamin that our body needs to maintain good immune system most especially in the aspect of preventing diseases even upto cancer. Not even that, it has been proven that when we expose our body to sunlight, it helps to make sure our brain function much more. There is something called the serotonin that is been released into our brain when we explode to sunlight which have been proven to improve our mood.
Among other benefits that regular sunlight exposure gives, it also helps to increase the quality of our sleep. Medically, sleep pattern is regulated by a hormone called melatonin which is released to our body system when we are exposed to regular sunlight exposure. But even though sunlight have lots of these benefits I have mentioned, if not well regulated, it also have it's own side effects when it is too much.
When the sunlight entering our body is in excess, it can leads to skin damage and even eye contacts which in some cases most especially when you are living in a region whereby they have hot temperature, it can leads to skin cancer. But the big question now lies? How much of sunlight do you need which we can say is enough in the sense that it will not be excessive and it will not be little? According to the research I discovered, if you are able to expose your body to sunlight around 10-30 minutes daily in the week, it is more than enough.
Anything that goes beyond that, you will risk your skin having damage and much more. Overall as I conclude, our body needs sunlight as we should change that mindset to think probably sunlight is needed for the sun or probably for the plants. Our body needs it to run efficiently and in as much as our body needs it, it must be in moderate proportion.
Well said. The sun can give Vitamin D to the body, but just like you said, it should be in moderation.
Thanks for sharing, buddy.
