The Role of Silence in Music Composition
One of the things I have come to discover is that sometimes we did not even know the effort some people put into creating something's. Growing up, my eyes didn't even opened to see the loads of efforts that musicians always put into making music that we enjoyed. Sometimes we just listen to music like 3-4 minutes and we thought that is so simple like that.
No, sometimes musicians takes days if not weeks to create juts that short 3-4 minutes we enjoy. When it comes to making music, there are a whole lot of stages involved in it and one of it that we hardly pay attention to is the music composition.
Like I said, there are stages like creating the lyrics, making the beats, the editing of the voices and many more. But when it comes to music composition, it has been proven that silence goes a long way to aid music composition. There is a way silence always gives avenues for us to meditate and the more we meditate, the more we get inspiration to get and create some certain things that are new and unique.
Most composer intentionally actually make use of silent environment, silent moment. Why they make use of silent is because it helps them to think deep, reflect and have an emotional connection to that which they are creating most especially in the lyrics. With silence, the music composer can actually know when to add beats, when to add verse and many more.
Not only that, from my own personal experience, I have come to discover that silence helps to actually give structure and rhythm. In fact, I have experienced it before many years ago. When I was actually still writing stories growing up. I always get my inspiration and ideas when ever I am in a silent environment. Ir helps me to create the stories more faster and helps me to get the rhythm for the stories. I believe same thing also for music composer. It helps them to get lyrics with rhythms and meaning.
We live in a digital world whereby we are surrounded with so much noise in every aspect and for me I believe the value of silence in creating music is getting undervalued. In fact, this is one of the reason why a lot of music we listened to now are losing their originality and uniqueness. A lot of music producers and composers are just making use of Artificial intelligence to create their lyrics.
Don't get me wrong, we thank God for AI but nevertheless, there should still be time whereby music composer's can create lyrics from their soul making use of the power of lyrics. With silence been used, it helps us to create and Retain that Originality in our songs. If silence is well used in creating song, it can make good songs to be great songs that connects with the soul. I strongly believe that and the earlier we understand this, the better it will be for us.
