My Book Review: Understanding the Anointing by Kenneth E. Hagin
For me personally, if there is actually something that have transformed my life around positively beyond what I can ever imagine of, I will say it is the act of reading books. There is so much that book reading have done in my life. Sometimes I looked at my life around 5 years ago and what it is today and I must confess that there have been so much of transformation that has happened.
One of the book that I read that really transform is Kenneth Hagin which is "Understanding The Anointing". For me, it is a book that has been able to change my perspective about a lot of things most especially when it comes to the Pentecostal Christian traditions. Hagin is one of the renowned authors I love reading because of his word of faith teachings.
In this particular book, he actually helped to explain deep what anointing is and not only what it is but also how it works in the life of a Christian and how you can grow the anointing in your life. Growing up and as a Christian that I am, I have always heard about anointing but I didn't really know deep what it is and how it works. I just work with logic that Anointing is about power. But as time went on and most especially reading this particular book, it opened my eyes to a whole lot of things I didn't know.
This particular book is divided into three section. The First section talks about the individual anointing which is the common type of anointing. The second section of the book talks about the corporate anointing and the last one is about the ministry anointing. The individual anointing according to the book talks about the one that works in every born again Christian. The ministry anointing talks about those available for people like the pastor's, the apostles, evangelism and all the five fold ministry gifts.
If there is something that makes me to love the book most especially when reading the book, it is the writing style of Hagins. He always write in this conversational tone and always attached personal experience for everyone to understand. If there is something I learnt from the book, it is the fact that Anointing is the presence of the holy spirit in ones life. He makes me to understand that every believer have an anointing the moment we give our lives to Christ. For me, it really goes a long way to change the mindset about anointing.
Growing up, I always think the anointing is only for pastors. Not only that, I always think you can only receive the anointing probably after fasting and praying for long. It is actually something that opened my eyes to see another perspective and way it works. Not only that, one of the things I really learnt about the anointing when I was reading the book is the fact that Anointing can grow. It also opens my eyes to see how anointing can grow. One of the things that really goes a long way to determine the growth of anointing is obedience.
The fact that he always share his own personal experience along the way during the book is what actually stand out for me. The final section of the book is what I was taught a lot which talks about the ministry anointing. This actually talks about the aspect of ministerial offices anointing. I was actually made to believe that the anointing that works in the life of pastor is quite different from the one that works in the life of evangelist or apostle's. It actually opened my eyes to a whole lot of things about how ministerial Anointing works.
There is a whole lot of reason why I fall in love with the book. The first is the fact that the book is well grounded when it comes to biblical grounding. This makes me to understand that every knowledge that is been shared in the group is not only from an intellectual point of view but also from the point of scriptural point of view. I also love the way there are personal testimonies that are been shared along the book most especially his own stories. So many of the time, his personal experiences have been a major source of encouragement for me.
Even though the book might have been written by an American, but trust me, the book is applicable to every aspect of the world. For me, I believe this is a book every believer and the church in Nigeria to read and understand so that we will be free from our ignorance that has long tied us down. The book for me is beyond the theological point of view, it is a deliverance for me and it makes me better and understand some certain things that I didn't know before. When I was reading this book, I wish I should have read this book many years ago because it will have delivered me from the Ignorance I have lived in for many years. In fact, I am currently reading one of his book again and when I am done, I will share it with us once again and I am so sure you will love it also. If you have not read this book, go check it out instantly, it will bless you greatly.
