Dealing With Tuberculosis as a Patient

in Project HOPE14 days ago

Growing up, I usually realise that health is actually wealth. There is no amount of wealth that can replace having a sound health no matter the amount of money that you actually have. Sometimes I usually have strong pity for people who are actually living with some health issues because trust me, dealing with some of them can really be demanded both financially, emotionally, mentally and psychologically.

Today I will be talking about an health issue that is affected by a lot of people in our present society and dealing with them can really be mentally demanding. Tuberculosis is not a new name for many of us. It is one of the contagious infection that affects the lungs and have become a very global health issue. As a tuberculosis, it can really be difficult dealing with the infection mentally, emotionally and lots more including the social aspect. But putting some structure in place, it can actually help you to live a healthy life and that is what I will be talking about today.

For some people, they did not know they have tuberculosis until the chronic condition when they start having severe cough, start having chest pain and generally weight loss. Well it is actually because they always fail to go for constant medical checkup. But the good news when it comes to Tuberculosis, it is treatable and curable. It is not like other chronic infections like cancer that is not treatable and is not curable. For many people, why they are not able to deal with the infection is because of the stigma that comes with it.

After diagnosis, I believe the first treatment is to be placed on treatment immediately. According to my research and from my own personal experience, treating tuberculosis last around 6-9 months. Around 4-6 months when the tuberculosis is still at the early stage and when it has hit the chronic condition, then it will need around 9 months of treatments and careful prescription of antibiotics. Most of the time, when they are treating the disease, they need to adjust when it comes to their lifestyle and other things that they are doing to help aid the treatments.

Not only that, from my own personal experience because I have one of my friend who was diagnosed with tuberculosis many years ago and even after the medications, there are still some side effects that follows it. Side effects like vision changes, nausea and generally other changes and that is why it is always advisable that the patient should always go for medical checkup even after many treatments. There needs to be a close attention to their nutrition.

Beyond the medication treatments and many more. There is still a need to pay attention to the emotional and mental state of the patient. Trust me, dealing or living with tuberculosis can come with this feeling of isolation, anxiety and many more. You are careful of not infecting others with the infection, it makes them to live in isolation and much more. They need emotional support, they need encouragement and many more. They also need to always pay attention to their lifestyle so that they will not infect others with the infection.
