Can Your Mind Really Cure Illness?

Growing up, I heard so many facts that we believe it to be very true beyond what we can ever imagine. I mean a lot ranging from the one that we usually hear that human beings make use of 10% of their brain to other facts. There was one I grew up listening and even believing and that is the fact that our mind can cure illnesses.

Of course I am not new to understand that our mind has so much power to do something's we did not even imagine. When the mind connect strongly with our body, it is bound to create amazing results. Decades ago, people always believe that our mind can influence our physical health but the big question is can the mind cure illnesses?

When making my research, I discovered that our mind can actually produce something called the Placebo effect. In some cases, when our mind is able to trigger these placebo effect, it can go a long way to actually make massive improvements in the health aspect. In some cases, Placebo can serve as a treatment to help reduce the pain we feel and can even help in getting quality sleep. Of course the placebo effects work the same way our brain can release chemicals like endorphins and other popular ones we know.

Not only that, it has also been proven that our mind can determine the state of our immune system. What do I mean by that? Take for example if you are the individual that constantly faces chronic stress, it will weaken your immune system and we all know that when your immune system is weaken, it gives room for all manner of sickness to creep into our body system. Our immune system is the defence against infections, the stronger it is, the more we are protected against some illness and the more weaker it is, the less protected against illness we are.

But let me quickly create the balance. Even though to a great extent our mind can cure some illness, but the truth is it is not all. There are some illnesses that our mind or the placebo effects I talked about earlier can't cure. Illnesses like Cancer, like heart diseases, tuberculosis and many more. All of these types of illnesses needs medical attention. If you want to risk it thinking your mind can cure those such of illnesses, it can leads to death.

For me personally, I will rather suggest instead of us seeing our mind as a tool that cure illnesses, we should change the mindset. We should see it as a part of our body system that if carefully paid attention to, it can help our mental health. As I conclude, back to the question, can our mind cure some illness? Of course yes but not all. Is it advisable for us to use our mind to cure illnesses? Absolutely no because it can affect the configuration of our brain. The mind even though might be able to cure some certain illnesses should not replace our convectional medicine.
