A microscopic glimpse
of crystallization
A few days ago, I published Ghost Stories: Sciencey Tales of Unforeseen Consequences... Episode 1 - A Gel Capsule's Invisible Enemy for the Popular STEM community. It was the first of a series of articles I am going to publish about real-world scientific and engineering affairs where unanticipated, sometimes seemingly insignificant factors led to extraordinary, and—as you'll see—sometimes catastrophic consequences. Each post will be a single story from the annals of STEM, in order of severity on a scale I share below.

Hints about the
**Ghost Stories** series
The post you are reading now will serve as a home for the entire series. As I publish each episode, I'll link to it from here for future reference, and each post will provide a link back to here so you can find other posts easily if you miss any. I'm also going to attempt to obscure the topics a little bit until each episode is published to keep spoilers to a minimum.

My hope is that this series will entertain you, quench your curiosity, and give you just a little bit of pause—because a healthy dose of caution is warranted for us humans. Innovation often comes at the cost of unpredictability; with these stories, I attempt to illuminate the precarious nature of progress. What are we willing to endure in order to secure a better future?

Here, in order of increasing scope of disaster weighted by the severity of human actions, are ten episodes of my "Ghost Stories: Sciencey Tales of Unforeseen Consequences" series; enjoy!

Oh - did I not tell you that I shut off penny4thoughts? Sorry, that hasn't been running for a while now. It ran into trouble during a network glitch, and I turned it off to revamp it (which I never got around to). I'll return the beneficiary payout to you when it pays out.

Looking forward to the rest of the series, though!

Aw too bad. You might have told me, and I forgot.

If you think you'll get it going again sometime, might as well keep the payout!
