It seems that somehow we are all determined that artificial intelligence will end humanity, some think of an apocalyptic scenario worthy of James Cameron and his Terminators, where machines have taken over everything and have us as slaves while others like Subhash Kak of the University of Oklahoma, believes that in the next three hundred years artificial intelligence and robots will do all the tasks that a human could want, which will make us expendable.

This would cause most jobs and social roles to disappear, causing a crisis of meaning and purpose for people.

The lack of employment and incentives to form families, coupled with social alienation and the loss of traditional institutions, would accelerate demographic collapse. In this case, unlike in classic dystopian scenarios, we are not facing a hostile artificial intelligence that destroys us, but rather a voluntary retreat of humanity due to the lack of reasons to reproduce and sustain civilization, which in my opinion could be as horrifying, if not more so, than the Terminator option.

Personally, I don't find this a very convincing theory. I think it's true that the population will decline, but not so much as to remain at 100 million. The trend we're seeing is that, as the standard of living rises and the birth rate declines, it's no longer necessary to bring children into the world to work in the fields. By the time well-being reaches the entire world's population, we'll be less than half that number. Why do we want 8 billion people on Earth if 4 billion have to be screwed for the rest to live well?
Personalmente no la veo una teoría muy convincente, creo que si es cierto que la población se reducirá, pero no tanto como para quedar en cien millones. La tendencia que vemos es que, a medida que el nivel de vida crece la natalidad decrece, ya no es necesario traer niños al mundo para trabajar en el campo.
