The representation of magnetism and other things of the cosmos.

This research was published on May 13, what would happen if we could visualize the magnetic fields of our galaxy together with the gas clouds plus the cosmic rays plus other elements that are in the galaxy, all that set of data and observations, put them all together and see them with our own eyes, obviously we cannot see the magnetism with our own eyes so we would have to create some type of algorithm, some type of model to be able to give color to those shapes that had that magnetism and of course to gather so much data a supercomputer that would translate all that into a visual image.

That idea came from James Beattie, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto, along with several other colleagues. They developed a model to process all the data and translate it into images, but as I said, I needed a super computer, and they found it in Germany, the SuperMUC-NG of the Leibniz Supercomputing Center (LRZ) of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Germany, a lot of Super but it deserves it, the adjective is well placed.

This supercomputer can simulate very different spatial scales from regions of 30 light years in diameter to structures 5,000 times smaller and the result is the image shown above of the magnetism in the galaxy together with the data of the clouds of gas and dust and how they affect each other. It has been described as a cosmic work of art, but it is a scientific work created with a supercomputer and based on an immense amount of data, it is the flow of swirling gases and lines magnetic fields of our galaxy.

The interstellar medium is magnetic and magnetism is fundamental for the development of many cosmic phenomena, some of which we still do not understand very well how they work, which is why cosmic magnetism is a completely new and exciting field.

Magnetism in addition to interstellar space can be compressed and is turbulent, and affects important processes such as star formation, the movement of cosmic rays and the mixing of materials in space, however, despite its importance it is still a new field, where scientists are simply opening the door and discovering a new continent of magnetism to explore, in fact, the researchers stated that this is the first time that we can study these phenomena with this level of precision and at these different scales.

They hope that with these models they can begin to study and understand how magnetism works at the galactic level.
