There is a new investigation that has returned to one of the things that has most awakened people's imagination, the face of Mars and also mine when I was a kid, these things in the end attract attention and open your mind to investigate more about Mars. It was one of the things when I was a child that caught my attention and immediately, I wanted to read a lot of things to see what was happening on Mars and a lot of topics.

Of course, you analyze what is real, what is fantasy, you separate what is fantasy from what is reality, but you investigate, the good thing about these things is that they open the door for you to investigate or become interested in science fiction if you want or science or everything together. But this was one of the things that caught my attention as a kid and helped me research and read about Mars.

The first image of this face of Mars was taken by NASA's Viking 1 probe on July 25, 1976, now the University of Arizona has published on April 25 of this year an investigation under the title "from dawn to dusk in the Martian mimetolith", a word, mimetolith falls within the phenomenon of pareidolia, but while pareidolia includes any natural or artificial object that our mind, upon seeing it, associates with something familiar, such as a face, a cat, a dog, a lion, a mimetolith is a natural rock formation, that is, it would be a section within the phenomenon of pareidolia, limited to the themes of rocks that have been eroded by geological processes or by a volcano or by an earthquake.

Rocks that in the end due to the action of the sea, or by the action of the ice, because in this case the action of the ice was greatly influenced, that mimetolith is what makes us refer to an image of a face, but it also has to coincide with the shadows, at a certain time of day, which is what made the Viking probe spend a certain time and capture exactly this image.

An example of a mimetholith is believed to be the great sphinx of Giza, because researchers believe that the great sphinx of Giza must have been a rock that had the shape of a lion and that had been illuminated since ancient times and at one point a pharaoh said "Hey, put my face here" and since you are going to deify me, deify me well." Originally it must have been that, a rock that had special characteristics that would remind us of a god, a lion and it was worshiped long before the pyramids were built.

The researchers have created the video above of the different shadows that occur at different times of the Martian day. They have analyzed that, but they have also analyzed other characteristics of the geology of this plateau, because it is a small plateau, along with others, there are more plateaus similar to this one, because there is a mystery: how were they formed? In the region where it is, it is a fairly flat region, but suddenly you find several plateaus, one is this one but there are several more.

Researchers have come to the conclusion that this entire area experienced intense glacial activity, that is, there was a lot of ice, it was an area like Antarctica now and that plateau was crushed and eroded by the action of the ice that fell from above and eroded into those valleys that create those specific shapes.

This has a special characteristic because they have also discovered that the spots of smooth material, whitish spots that are seen especially on the sides facing east and north, can be remains of dusty water ice, that is, water ice that still remains from that time but with a lot of dust, which prevents them from sublimating, it is interesting because if there is water ice it can be a very interesting place to place a base because we would have water ice nearby. Finding water on Mars is not easy, there is at the poles, yes, but the poles are very cold, the ideal is to look for water ice in intermediate zones where it is somewhat warm and you can also use solar energy if you want to establish a base, that's why I raise the doubt, don't you think that this place should be marked as a priority objective in human exploration of Mars? past.
