The dangerous path of the solar system

We travel through the cosmos, through the galaxy at about 830,000 km per hour, the solar system moves around the galactic nucleus and completes one revolution in what would be a galactic year, which is about 225 to 250 million years.

In the future we can reach very dangerous regions and in the past it is suspected that some mass extinctions could be motivated by having passed close to a massive star that exploded causing a supernova, but there are other dangers, a few weeks ago an investigation was published that suspects that the solar system had passed through the Orion star formation complex in the past.

The system crossed a structure known as a Radclife wave, the Radclife wave is a large-scale formation of stars, similar to a filament, it is composed of a row of interconnected star formation, that is, several stars being born, with matter interconnected between them, we have been there and it is quite dangerous because the stars that are born are also very active and there is also a lot of matter of all kinds.

This could have had a catastrophic effect by compressing the heliosphere, according to researchers. The heliosphere is the name of the protective bubble that surrounds our planetary system. It is created by the solar wind and reaches more or less to something beyond Pluto; The heliosphere protects us from much of the cosmic radiation. not of all. but for the most part.

This research was done using data from the European Space Agency's Gaia mission along with spectroscopic observations and other data and the researchers conclude that about 14 million years ago we crossed that dangerous zone of the Orion Nebula and that at that time the Earth would have been exposed to greater amounts of cosmic dust.

Such material could have penetrated the Earth's atmosphere and may be deposited in layers that can still be detected, for example the seabed or the bottoms of ancient lakes or in ancient ice sheets, not too old because it had a curious effect, an effect on the Earth's climate.

The researchers say that with current technology it is not yet sensitive enough to detect this increase in cosmic dust, but that it could be detected with future technical advances, so it would be possible to detect this level of increase in cosmic dust in the future, the important thing is that we know that there is a relationship between a climate change that is the transition of the middle Miocene 14 million years ago, just at the moment in which we crossed that dangerous zone, in which the Earth suffered a change in climate, we went from a warm climate to Earth, warmer than the current one, to another colder and more stable climate marked by the extensive formation of ice at the poles.

Before there would be hardly any ice at the poles, because research analyzed the climate and how ice ages evolved, which apparently is a fairly recent phenomenon, from about 3.5 to 4.0 million years ago.

Maybe to protect us we will have to charge the Earth's ionosphere to act as a shield, or strengthen the Earth's magnetic field in some way. Perhaps they will consider it in the future and I am not saying this because of life on the surface, which would not have much effect, but because a solar catastrophe comes, in the future a powerful flare may occur. We have space satellites, space technology because they are very sensitive to solar storms and that can cause many problems.
