Scientists manage to grow teeth in the laboratory.

Who has not gone through the headache of having to have a root canal treatment, a filling or even dental implants, they are uncomfortable, expensive procedures and often not even that efficient in the long term, but now there is good news.

A team of scientists from Kings College London achieved something that could completely change that story by growing a human tooth in the laboratory, paving the way for a true revolution in dental care.

Instead of fillings or artificial implants you could simply regenerate your own teeth, a great novelty here is a special material created by researchers that works as an artificial environment that mimics the way our teeth grow naturally, allowing cells to talk to each other.

Basically the cells receive signals that say "hey, it's time for a new tooth to grow here", and the secret is in the way these signals are released slowly, exactly as they happen naturally in our body, of course it will still take time until this reaches the dental office near your home, but the promise is enormous.

First, these grown teeth would be completely natural, integrating perfectly with your jaw, no rejection and no accelerated wear as occurs with traditional fillings, and implants, in addition to requiring invasive surgery, do not always integrate perfectly with the alveolar bone, which can generate complications.

The new method offers a much more biological and long-lasting solution. Scientists are considering two main possibilities, the first would be to transplant the young cells directly into the home of the lost tooth allowing it to grow naturally inside the mouth.

The second would be to grow the entire tooth in the laboratory and then place it in the patient, both approaches have enormous potential but still need a lot of research to get out of the laboratory and into the market. It is a fact that there are still a few years left, but the first results are already very promising.

We are facing a possible revolution in dentistry, growing human teeth in the laboratory is not only impressive in scientific terms, but it can solve real problems that millions of people face every day and who knows, within a few years visiting the dentist may stop being a nightmare and become something much more peaceful and natural.
