Our ability to communicate with the stars.

One of humanity's great quests is to find another civilization beyond Earth. Are we alone in the universe, or are we a unique and special case? I'm not saying in the entire universe, which is gigantic, but at least we are a unique and special case in the galaxy. We are working on it.

Organic molecules are not necessarily the product of life, but they are essential for life to emerge. However, on Bennu, an asteroid visited by a NASA spacecraft, and on some others, they found clays, materials that are created in contact with liquid water. It is impossible for there to have been liquid water in its existence because Bennu is small, with a diameter of 450 meters, meters, not kilometers. Therefore, Bennu was surely the remnant or accumulated fragments of at least a protoplanet, that is, a body large enough to have liquid water at least under an icy surface, like Europa, or perhaps it was a planet from the past that was destroyed in our solar system. Asteroids hold many clues and many secrets.

There is a very interesting SETI investigation that can be applied to the interpretation of signals sent by other civilizations. SETI, which is the search for extraterrestrial intelligent life, is an effort by scientists around the world to detect evidence of technological civilizations that could exist elsewhere in the universe, and they have been working on it for decades. Car Saga was not one of the founders, but it was one of the pioneers in the project with Frank Drake. Frank Drake is the creator of the Drake equation, which, if we knew all the components, would give us a figure for how many technological civilizations exist in our galaxy and, by extension, how many may exist in other galaxies similar to ours.

SETI was established in the late 1950s and early 1960s and has been working for a long time from a scientific perspective, searching for data and information. It is a difficult task, a colossal task, but it is almost like trying to talk to gods. I know, it's a bit of a strong term, but the fact is that an extraterrestrial technological civilization may be advanced not by a few centuries, or a few millennia, but hundreds of thousands or millions of years. Imagine humanity if we did not exterminate ourselves first in a technological, mental, and cultural evolution of a million years more, how we were a million years ago and how we could be in the future a million years from now.

That is the level of the search, and a million years is not an extremely long time when talking about the evolution of the cosmos. There are star systems that are a billion years older than our solar system and are similar to ours.

SETI projects use large telescopes and antennas to listen to space, searching for patterns and signals that may indicate the presence of alien technology. These signals, like our current technology, would be radio or optical signals, either by laser or other means of light, because they are the only signals we can pick up. We would like to have technology to pick up some other type of signal, but this is the range we can detect.

An advanced civilization could communicate via radio waves or light signals, although we know that these are limited by the speed of light. If that civilization were much more advanced than us, it would probably have some other method of communication that is much faster and more effective, avoiding the problem of the speed of light limitation. What could that be? I don't know, I have no idea, and there's no shame in saying that we have no idea. Although obviously, if there is a solution, it must lie in that part of what we do not know. If there is a solution for communicating faster than light, it must lie in that field of the unknown universe that we have yet to investigate, for example, the quantum world, about which we know little, but there is still much to investigate, or dark energy, about which we know almost nothing. To say “I don't know” is dramatic.

I say this because scientists often fill in the gaps they don't know with things and end up creating Frankenstein's monsters to try to explain something they don't know, which can be explained simply by saying, “I don't know,” “I need to investigate further.” The dramatic thing would be to say that it's impossible.
