It all starts with a curiosity; The journey of space probes.

The probes that use gravitational assistance acquire their speed from many years of passing by the Sun, passing by Venus and with each pull they acquire great speed, and you spend a lot of years in that process, but for manned ships it is a matter of arriving earlier, not spending a lot of time with gravitational assistance.

The gravitational assists are done to save fuel and make space missions much cheaper because otherwise you would have to send not only your explorer ship but also tons of fuel into space which would be very expensive, that is why space agencies when they send a probe to Jupiter, Saturn, Venus use gravitational assists because the probe, as they popularly say, my people do not eat bread, there is no one, there is no human inside, so it can calmly do these assists to gain speed and reach your objective, but when you have people who eat bread, when there are humans inside, you need to reach your destination as soon as possible because among other missions, space is a very hostile environment.

There is a lot of radiation, there are many problems and you have to keep the people on that ship alive, you need to bring food, water, oxygen and use the plasma engine plus the gravitational assistance because both things can be used perfectly.
