๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘น Halloween in the Philippines & Western Influenced Workplace ๐Ÿ‘น๐ŸŽƒ

in #philippines โ€ข 7 years ago (edited)

Halloween is celebrated quite differently in the Philippines. It typically starts from the 30th and the 31st day of October spent in cleaning the graves of love ones who passed away, buying and arranging flowers, putting up tents, and preparing snacks. All these in preparation for a whole day spent in prayers for our dead, and getting together to honor their memories on the 1st day of November. Some prefer going to the cemeteries on the 2nd day of November when the grave yards are less crowded.

With the western cultural influence however, specially in the workplace where exposure to the culture of clients is inevitable, we have started dressing up and decorating to scare, and doing trick-or-treat with the young ones. The photos here are from the last years engagement activities at work in celebration of Halloween.

The Butcher's Hospital

The concept is from the many hospital horror movies; Hospital (2014), Comma (1978), Halloween II (1981), Dead Ringers (1988), and Visiting Hours (1982).

The team used real sexy nurse outfits, covered with a combination of red food colors, ketchup, and coffee to create the bloody effect. The butcher's knives were all made of wood and paper and no one was hurt in the event.

Human Meat Shop

The Butcher

The Meat Shop and this one were both inspired by the many gory horror movies that are butcher-like; Saw (2004), Hostel (2006), and High Tension (2005) among others.

Freddy Krueger

The concept was based on the main character of the 1984 American film A Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy Krueger is a burnt serial killer who kills his victims in their dreams using razors.

The team used common glue mixed with some make up to create the prosthetic-like burns, foils and cardboard to imitate the razors. They used an old denim pants filled with paper, and red paint to create victim next to Freddy left with only the lower half of his body.

The Cutest Children Dressed as Superheroes, Princesses, Witches, and Fairies

The Sweet Treats | Candies

The Cold-Sweet Treats | Dirty Ice Cream

Even These Cute Babies Came to Participate

Here Comes the Trick | Some Parlor Games with the Little Ones

We played a few parlor games with the kids and had so much fun, although in these photos it looks like the adults had more fun, and the kids are getting impatient for their treats.

Here Are the Best in Costume Winners

A Ninja Kid, a young Count Dracula, and a cute toddler dressed as Russel in the 2009 movie Up are the winners of the best in costume.

They brought home more candies, some cute stuff toys, and cash prizes for more toys given to their parents.

I am excited for this years celebration. We will do it a little differently this year. We will do a fun run dressed in our best Halloween costumes for the benefit of a charitable institution we are working with to fund a Christmas event. Will post all about it after the event.

How cool and cute does everyone look!?!!

What I remember of Halloween in the Phils is the visit to the graves and hanging out with the family.

I love how you guys have also taken on the western Halloween tradition cos lets be honest, it is fun.

You're right momi. My staff can be more excited for Halloween than Christmas sometimes because of these activities.
