Mack Anthem: Six - Only one to go
Yesterday I completed the sixth stage of the Mack Anthem Lego build and whilst it's coming out super-cool I starting to feel that slight anxiety about the fact that the building-process of this truck and trailer is almost over.
Stage six revolved around the construction of the the hydraulic cranes that will lift the shipping container on and off the trailer itself. These are not actually hydraulic on the Lego model but in real life they would be. The resemble the hydraulic arms just the like the real thing but are mechanically operated.
Below you can see one of the assembly's coming together. They were reasonably technical to build requiting some concentration and I'll be honest, I made a mistake and had to dismantle one. Yep, again.
Each of these cranes actually have two moving elements to them...The lift and tilt mechanism that lifts the container up and down, and also moves it off the trailer to the ground and vice versa. To make that work two sets of hydraulic arms are required; These are operated via a couple of wheels to the rear of the truck and a system of drive shafts, universal joints and cogs.
My mistake yesterday was that I placed one of the main lifting rams into the crane assembly upside down which meant when I operated the control wheel one wanted to go up and the other down...This didn't work of course.
An hour of disassembly and reassembly later and this issue was rectified. I didn't have to make up any new swear words this time, I simply approached it calmly understanding that I make mistakes, like everyone does. This was a particularly dumb one though.
Below you can see stage six complete and the trailer in the three stages of use.
Th left image is the cranes closed which is how they would be with no container load, or with a container on-board.
Centre is the crane in the lift position which would be when loading or unloading a container. Note the stabilising legs that extend and lock down and lock into position.
The right image is the position in which the crane would set down, or pick up, a container from the ground. In this one you can clearly see the lifting chain that will secure to the corners of the container.
I am incredibly pleased with how this truck has come together. It is really large, almost a metre long, and certainly has some presence.
My wife asked me last night about where I might put it and I'll be honest, I didn't have an answer. I may put on the top of my piano although that already has a pile of books waiting to be read and so they would have to go...There might be some shuffling around I think although to be honest that won't be an issue for a while as I'll be playing with the truck for a little while after completing it anyway. Yep, homie still plays lego y'all.
Stage seven will take place this week, the container itself. It is not a technical stage and so shouldn't take very long. That will bring the build to a conclusion and I have to say, despite a couple of hiccups with the build, it has been my favourite one so far. It's a very cool model and it has brought this truck-lovin' dude a lot of enjoyment.
Once complete I will take some photos of the truck in better light and with my camera rather than phone; I'll do a post brining it all together and to conclude the build. I hope you'll stick with me for that.

Oof I thought your trailer was going to be easy, somehow managed to miss that there was a crane on it XD Had to giggle at the upside down arm, oops! Hope it wasn't a difficult fix (even though it took an hour).
It really is coming together and damn that thing s huge D:
Do you have a list? XD
Yeah, something has to load and unload the container although many trailers don't have their own cranes relying on cranes on-sight to do the lifting.
The fix wasn't too bad...Wasn't too good, bit not too bad. 😊
It's looking cool huh? I'll be disappointed to complete this one to be honest as it's been fun...Bet then I get to play with it so all good! 50 year old child huh? (49 and 11 months-old I mean.)
You're only old once you stop playing so keep playing ;D
Yep...And speaking of which...I just finished the build...And was playing.
It's cool! Drops the container, picks it up...The container even locks! I'll do a post when I get a chance. So, yeah...Am playing with the truck now...So not old. :)
Sneak peak for your eyes only.
The levels of detail they go into for these things is awesome :D
Sure is. The engineering is spectacular. There must be some smart cookies up there in the Lego building. I wonder if their design desks are made of Lego?
Almost done so you could make some more mistakes so you can rebuild again and again to keep that building satisfaction going👍

That might work, but it would also probably annoy me too much and I'd break it in frustration.

Progress! That hydraulic lift system translates into a pretty cool mechanism when done in Lego. I still can't believe how much thought has been put into designing them, and how much can be done with just Legos. I beg you to put up a video showing us how this all works!
Your reply is timely...I'm just about to start building the last stage; Came home from from work just now and just about to build. (Yeah, it's not yet 5pm but they won't miss me at the office.)
I may do a video, it should be simple enough to do so. I reckon I can do that for you. :)
Yes! Just a short video showing how the "hydraulics" work, please :-)
I'll keep an eye out for the last stage. Don't worry too much about work, nothing can take the place of Legos.
Now this is a statement I am more than happy to take on board.
"Hey boss, not coming into work today...Playing Legos instead"
That'd go down well.
I'll do the video. Stage six is actually complete now. Just need the time to get it all together, take the photos and do some video.
Nothing stops Legos, it's the universal answer to every problem. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the next update :-)
I'll get it done...Not sure when as I don't want to rush it. :)
In the meantime I'm thinking about my next build.
No need to rush, mate. Perfection takes time. It's done when it'll be done :-)
Cool! Too bad the cranes don't operate automatically. But that would require electrical components and battery replacements so maybe best it doesn't.
There's an automation kit one can buy, and a lighting kit actually...I'm not inclined though, rather spend money on buying more Lego.
Awesome sir galenkp, it's looking very good indeed. "I didn't have to make up any new swear words this time" lol!
Hey I don't know if you guys watch the Super Bowl or not but I thought of you that night because they had a commercial for a new tv show called Lego Masters.
I guess they have the country's best lego enthusiasts compete on building the best lego whatever...not sure of the rules but the builds looked big and complex.
It might be an interesting show.
I watched the Super Bowl but we don't get the American commercials. Lego Masters was originally an Australian Show which has gone overseas I think. I never watched it though as I prefer to build my own. I have heard it is very good though.

Oh how interesting, we got it from Australia! lol. On the Super Bowl, do they have Australian commercials that are seen for the first time and very expensive like over here? I think the rate is up to 7 million per minute.
Nah, not really. It is only shown on pay TV, not free to air, so many never see it. I recorded it so I could fast forward the commercials. Not a big fan of them although I've seen a lot of those Super. Bowl ones and some are really good!
That's funny about fast forwarding the commercials for the Super Bowl, it's known more for those than the game and many just watch it for the commercials, a few hilarious ones this year but most were stupid or incomprehensible. The halftime show this year was the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
The half time show was pathetic. I let it play as Faith watched it but I went out of the room and wrote half a blog. The commercials can be good, but I'm not one to watch them which is why I fast forward them...Even when I'm not watching a recorded show I mute the commercials. Can't stand them.
I'm very strange in that regard, as far as commercials, because everyone I know hates them but I really like them. lol. I usually learn from them or they give me ideas that I go look up online.
That's a fair point. I have seen commercials that are clever of funny, just that most are shite and so I don't risk getting any dumber than I am by watching them. Lol.
It may deserve a shelf (shelve.?) of it's own.
So by "No NEW swear words" You mean all the established old drunken sailor ones worked just fine....?!?
Haha, yeah the old favourites provided sufficient benefits so no new ones were devised. Lol.
I am in the process of starting to think about starting to think about storage options. So, once I start to think about starting to think about it a solution isn't too far away.
