Check out 2001 cafeteria New Hall University of Lagos
Hello friends
Someone once said to me where you eat reflect who you are
These words never left my heart as I kept growing up. This is why I am very watchful of the kind of places I hang out for food or fun.
One of the places I love to hangout or buy food are restaurants or cafeterias in the University of lagos. University of Lagos is one the top best institutions in my country. The university is not just beautiful but has facilities such as restaurants, cafeterias, recreation parks and centers, banks, museum and the likes of it.
I decided to visit one of the major places where students, lecturers and non students comes to eat or buy food. The name of this place is called 2001 Cafeteria New Hall University of Lagos
Location and background |

2001 cafeteria New Hall University of Lagos ( also known as Ijay’s bistro) is found inside the school not so far from the school main gate, it is very walkable. Founded since 2001 and has existed since then. This is 24 years of its existence in the school. The cafeteria is also known as the Ijay’s bistro
This cafeteria is very unique because it partnering with the Coca-Cola company, therefore all drinks sold here are purely Coca-Cola brands including water.
Another unique thing about the cafeteria is that inside the building comprises different other people or vendors selling food. The names of these vendors are written in each of their spaces. Students love to eat here because it seems affordable.
Front view and entrance to 2001 Cafeteria New Hall University of Lagos |
---|
The front view of this cafeteria is well painted with Coca-Cola colours of red and white with Coca-Cola logo fully represented. The cafeteria is in partnership with Coca-Cola company that's why they choose to use their designs and colour.

On the wall of the building has some beautiful adverts placed, you could see a lady and her kids enjoying bottles of Coca-Cola and food along side.
There is a parking space in front just incase you came with a car so that customers dont worry about where to park their cars.

---|
Towards the entrance, it has a stair case leading you into the cafeteria so that you don't get confused where the actual cafe is been that there are other shops by the sides. The entrance is a straight walk way leading to a big open space of chairs and tables. Some fridges are found at the entrance stocked up with brands of drinks from Coca-Cola.
Exterior and Design of The building |
---|
The exterior where this cafeteria is located at is a one story building. Like I rightly said, it's painted with yellow, touches of red and a little of white.
At the top of the building are little glass windows used for decoration, opened from bottom up. The type of floor available there is called the German floor.

---|
The shape of the building is a long and rectangular no wonder it accommodates many people taking spaces to do their food business.
Settings and Arrangements of the Cafeteria |
---|
Tables and chairs arrangements
Walking into the building you will be welcomed with an organized setting. Tables and chairs are arranged well, they are all arranged to face each other in a board room style.
![]() |
---|
The chairs are red and the tables are covered with a red table cover to really represent the Coca-Cola brand.
Each owner of a kicked arranges their table and chairs opposite their space.
Wall demarcations
On the walls are demarcations to show the names of the several owners of the kitchen. These names are designed using the Coca-Cola design of red and white. This simply means all these owners only owed spaces in this building renting the spaces from the school management. Although the tables and chairs maintain the same colour even though different people owned the kitchen.

---|
There are over 15 demarcations made on the wall showing the names of the kitchen available like this one I saw that captivated my attention, this kitchen was called *Mara's Pepper soul. This kicked specializes in selling tasty hot pepper soup. *When life shows you pepper, make pepper soup. This was the inscription on the wall I saw that made me laugh so hard.
Ceiling and Fans Arrangements
Well the building is not really a modern building as you can see it says 2001 so its old therefore, the type of ceiling found here is not modern too. The type of ceiling found here is the gypsum type of ceiling. Flat and line barriers.

---|
The type of fans I noticed here is the ceiling fans scattered at the top ceiling of the building. The colours of the fans are brown they were all from the same brand, very organized.
The fans are always switched on except types when the weather is very cold like when I visited last the weather was really cold so most of the fans were off. There are no Air conditioning system used in this cafeteria I guess it just to cut down on the use of the electricity. Aside that the building is very well ventilated with all the fans numbering over 50 and the glass windows. Every fourth box in each ceiling has a ceiling fan.
Menu and prices of food sold at the Cafeteria |

There are several kinds of food sold by different vendors here and guess what their prices are the same for each vendor.
The type of cuisine in this cafeteria are purely local and not international I guess this is because it's purely or originally made for students of the school but somehow others outside school started patronizing them.
One of the most popular food sold here is jollof beans and bread. Almost every one who comes here, came for this particular food. Aside been affordable it feels the stomach up for a very long time leaving you energized.
The food are sold per plate. Let's take a look at the menu. All the food sold here are very affordable for anyone looking to patronize them and not expensive.

Discount Prices, Services and Quality of Food |
---|
First time customers are given a free drink to add up to their meal. So whenever a customer walks in and seats on a particular table belonging to any food vendor.
One of the staff from the vendor walks straight to the customer, greets the customer and welcomes the customer to the cafeteria asking them if it's their first time. This is to make sure free gift of drink are not given to those who are not first time.
While on that he or she also simply ask the customer what they want to purchase with a smiling face. He or she goes and get the food with an additional drink if the customer is a first time. The staff are friendly, polite and attend to every task with speed.
A discount price is given to any customer who buys food of more than 5000 naira, he is either given a free extra plate of food or given a voucher to come next time for a free plate of food. This strategy has attracted so many customers.

The quality of food sold here are not so standard, but it's very manageable because of the class of customers that come here. If the quality of food increases it will definitely affect the price of the food sold. So I would say the quality of food here is average.
The food is served on a plastic plate with red trays if you are buying two meals but if it's one meal you are not served with a tray.
The meals are cooked fresh daily. Food not sold are eaten by the staff or taken home so that the next day a new set is cooked.
Facilities and Special Features |
---|
The cafeteria has free wifi connection for every customer especially if you are a student of the school. Each customer can connect to the WiFi via their phones and password. Password is given on the receipt of payment of your meal.

Soft music is played at the background as customers enjoy their meals with a bottle of Coca-Cola drink. The music is played from speaker big speaker kept at the back end of the cafeteria.
They have a free parking space for those who came with cars or bikes. You don't need to pay for that service as long as you are a customer.
I made a short video of the environment and entrance of the cafeteria since I was not allowed to make videos inside the cafeteria.

Friends I would like to invite you to join this contest. @sahmie @lhorgic @eveetim
Excelente lugar en la universidad, me recuerda con nostalgia mi paso por la universidad. Los precios son asequibles.
Gracias por compartir, te deseo mucho éxito..!
That cheeky pepper-soup motto on the wall got me smiling, and it kind of captures the place’s spirit. The first-time free drink is a nice surprise too. If I stop by, which vendor does the jollof beans and bread best?
