Tutorial for Newbies — What makes a Quality Diary Game Post? Part 1
It's quite obvious that 80% of newbies create diary game posts on a daily basis. This isn't bad or questionable. The area of specialization is on how these posts are written. A newbie once said that his mentor restrained him from creating other contents except diary games. Why are these tips shared? Why don't I keep it to myself? It's because whatever newbies do in their grace period of 3 months will tell on them when they become old users.
Let's start by defining what a diary game post is, how it's spelt and what constitute this post as most people aren't aware of this.
What is a diary game post? |
---|
Before expatiating on the meaning, let's know how it's spelt. Most users spell it as Dairy Game. Let's know the difference between the two spellings Diary and Dairy game.
Dairy is a collective term for agricultural products from the milk of animals where farmers keep a dairy record of such activity. | ❌
---|----
Diary is a detailed description and narration of how your day went. It's also written as a personal journal for keeping records or sharing personal experiences from daily activities, observations, lifestyle, thoughts and the like. We do hear people say, 'This is my personal diary which I keep secret.' This fits the type of post Steemit allows. | ✅
So when you hear of the words 'diary game post', it's all about our experiences, observations and lifestyle for a particular day. It takes a chronological order, making it easy to identify.
What a diary game post is not? ❌❌
Sharing personal tutorials on cooking, drawing, etc.
Sharing an aspect of your day instead of describing it in full
Not a post you just share without thinking of how it would benefit people
A short post you can just make because you feel it's low-quality content
A post of one picture
Description of every inch of things you did. For example,
An excessively long post that makes it boring to read
I went to the toilet, I came, I saw, I conquered. I opened the door and closed it back. I took my plates and contained it with food. After eating, I went to my room, closed the door and slept
Yes, diary game posts are about narrating and describing but not in this pattern. A user once made a post which I drew a few screenshots from.
![]() | ❌❌❌❌. Don't have this mindset |
---|
This screenshot isn't what should drive you to create a diary game. It's wrong to create a diary game posts because you want to keep your blog active. With this idea, you'll just create it anyhow without inputting the benefits you derived that day, challenges, observations and what people can learn from your day.
Examples of diary games that aren't quality diary game posts
Post 1 | Post 2 | Post 3 | Post 4 | Post 5 |
---|
What a diary game entry is? ✅✅
- A detailed description and narration of one's day [from morning to evening].
- Only relevant or prominent activities carried out or observed during these hours.
You don't need to mention how you slept, woke up, walked on the road, laughed etc. Just tell us about those relevent activities, more like a vlog.
- A post where pictures speak but shouldn't overshadow words
- A post that is beneficial to readers [your lifestyle, how you managed your time, challenges, how you solved them, observations, experiences, etc.] Even though it's narrative, let your readers learn something in your post.
- A post that is neither too short nor too long. By too long I mean 1500 words plus.
Tips to Writing a Good Diary Game Post |
---|
- Reflect on how your day went
- Look at your pictures to help you think wide.
- Write a draft on activities done and combine it
- Choose and sample your title carefully
- Choose your first picture carefully
- Evaluate the body of the post
- Conclusion if necessary
- Check your tags
- Proofread
- Publish your content
Let's look at these tips critically because most users don't know how to prepare a diary game post.
Reflect on how your day went |
---|
How do you reflect? This is what most people fail to do that ends them in making summative posts with no value. To reflect on how your day went encompasses thinking of what you did and how you did it, where you went and when you went. Ask yourself these questions:
What did I do today?
Where did I go?
Did I plan my day before leaving the house?
What did I include in my plans for the day?
Was I able to accomplish all the things for that day?
What observations were made?
Did I experience anything that made me sad, angry or laugh?
How did I manage my time in doing a task?
Was procrastination part of my day?
What challenges did I face?
Was it a wasted day, or did you achieve something?
What do you resolve to do better than the next day?
These are questions we should ask ourselves when thinking of what to write. You don't necessarily need to make a subheading of these questions. You can isolate your experiences, challenges and other things after giving us a summary of the post, or you can include these in-between your narration. With these, you can write more than 300 words and add quality to your post.
Writing diary game posts everyday won't be ideal because you'll end up rushing to make posts with low quality because you want to stay active. It won't help you this way. Create prominent diary game entries, ones that your audience can learn from. Don't use the stress of work to write a diary game post. You'll definitely not do it right.
If you feel you want to make a diary game post but you were home alone, how do you do this in a quality way? What and what did you do online??? You can talk about things you did while pressing your phone. You can also share meal pictures and describe more and more. With all these linking tips, it's definitely impossible to write a post of less than 300 words.
Look at your pictures to help you think wide. |
---|
It's very essential to look at the pictures you want to use in your post before writing. Since it's below standard to have a post of one picture, using multiple pictures enriches your Diary Game post and makes it stand out, but note.
Your pictures shouldn't override your text or the number of words in your posts.
From your pictures, you can think in a broad angle as to how your day went. So always look at your photos to get clues. Even though you don't get to snap everything but will talk about them, your photos can bring back memories.
Write a draft on activities done and combine it |
---|
Writing drafts is very important, as it helps with the chronological arrangement of your diary game post. After reflection and looking at pictures for clues, take your notepad and start draughting points. These points should be segmented, as it would help readers go through your posts without being bored while reading.
What am I trying to say? Take a look at these two screenshots so you'll understand what I mean by draughting activities and combining them.
Post without specific draft of activities | Post with specific draft of activities
---|----
If you look at the two posts, you'll see that one is written as a novel, while the other post has segmented activities or subheadings that can give readers clues to what they are about to read. This is much more convenient for the readers, as they'll be able to follow up the subheadings till the end of the post.
It may not be compulsory, but it's important. Anytime you're writing a diary game post, put your readers at heart. Years back, we usually had the format of;
This was the format we used years back to help us write quality diary game posts. Now, we segment our activities instead of the old format. How? We list our prominent activities concurrently.
The draft should be in this format.

---|---|
Add subheadings to make your post a quality one | Absence of Subheadings make it boring to readers especially when long. |
Choose and sample your title carefully |
---|
It's observed that most people who create diary game posts don't know how to write a suitable title. Let's take some errors before talking about the correct format for writing titles for diary game posts. The following titles don't make a good diary game. Reasons would be stated. When writing a diary game title, we have three sections;
The type of post
Date the activity was carried out
A sub-title which explains your whole day in a sentence.
This follows a sequence: 1, 2 and 3. 3 shouldn't come before 2 or 1. 2 shouldn't come after 3. It must be 1, 2 and 3
How are these placed, and what should we keep in mind? Let's see some common errors.
This is what I mean
The diary game — 2-5-21 — Touring ibom museum ✅
The Diary Game — 2-5-21 — Touring Ibom Museum ✅
The diary Game — 2-5-21 — touring ibom Museum ❌
The start of every sentence must be in Caps, an article seen in-between words should be in small letters, the name of a person or country should be in caps, no matter where it appears, etc...
Format |
---|
This should be the format as we were trained on using this.
The Diary Game || Date || Sub-title that summarises your day
E.g
The Diary Game || 2-9-25 || Training my voice with songs and carrying out steemit challenges
A title should be;
- Concise, at least one or two lines.
- Shouldn't be too long or too short as in 3 words
- Should be catchy and able to attract readers
- Should be arranged well using the format for writing diary games
If you don't want to attach sections 1, it's ohkay to write the sub-title like that. If you don't want to include sections 1 and 2, you can still write it creatively, but ensure to include the date in the body of your post. For example
![]() | ![]() |
---|
**_Why is this essential? There was a time I read a post from the steemit team and they suggested not outrightly writing the words The Diary Game in your post but you can talk about it in the body of your post.
Picture-Title agreement is the next thing I'll discuss. Check out for part 2 which explains why we should avoid greetings when starting a diary game post, why we should be careful in selecting our first picture, and why it's necessary to work on the length of our diary game post. Other tips not discussed in this post would be discussed in my next post.
Summary |
---|
A diary game post should;
- neither too long nor too short. A minimum of 450 words makes a quality diary game.
- not contain just one picture
- not be spelt wrongly. It's Diary and not Dairy.
- be rich and must benefit your readers.
- contain subheadings that help segment the post.
- be rushed just to be active or get votes.
- not contain only a narration of your day. Tell us your experiences, challenges, how you managed your time and other things.
- not be a tutorial or focus on one part of your day. E.g Cooking Egusi Soup. You didn't use the whole day to cook Egusi. Your diary game post shouldn't be focused on one part of your day.
Your diary game title should follow the format
The Diary Game || Date || Sub-title that summarises your day
There are certain things we knew that newbies doesn't know. They just came to meet a regular pattern, not knowing why they follow that pattern. I'll make sure this post reaches every newcomer, as I'll start checking feedback from next week to see if it's being implemented.
Thank you very much for the time taken to go through all these. A great Steemian once made a post like this in person for @patjewell. This was 2-3 years back. I'm trying to recreate and bring back all I learnt from her post as a student then.... With this information, you can be a successful Steemian after your first three months of being a newcomer.
Adulthood comes with responsibility. They'll assume you must have known, and your post won't have to be like you're still a newbie. If you have questions that bother you, don't forget to ask in the comment section. There'll would be attended to.

I sincerely appreciate this as I have learnt so much from the diary spelling to the date before title. Title should come in first caps and not all caps or all small letters. I will try and make a post tonight and tag u for corrections.
Please how do I begin the greeting aspect before writing?
I appreciate the fact that you're willing to improve your diary game . Ohkay. Greetings aren't necessary in your diary game post. Just go straight to the point. I'll share my diary game with you to see how I write it.
