I hope you're all doing well and enjoying your day. Today, I’m excited to share my Achievement 2 post, where I’ll be talking about basic account security on Steemit — especially the importance of your keys and how to use them correctly.
Let’s go through the questions and my answers for this achievement.
Question 1:
Have you retrieved all your keys on Steemit?
Answer:
Yes, I have successfully retrieved all my keys. They were provided in the form of a PDF file, which I downloaded and stored safely.
Question 2:
Do you know the purpose and limitations of each key?
Answer:
Yes, I’ve taken time to understand each key and what it is used for. Here's a simple breakdown:
Posting Key:
This key is used for regular activities like publishing posts, commenting, upvoting, resteeming, and following/unfollowing others. It is safe for daily use because it doesn’t allow access to your wallet.
Active Key:
This key is used for wallet-related actions, including powering up/down, transferring STEEM, and withdrawing funds. It has more authority than the posting key and should be kept secure.
Owner Key:
The owner key is the most important key. It’s used to change your other keys and to recover your account if it’s ever compromised. This key should be stored in a very safe place and never used unless absolutely necessary.
Memo Key:
The memo key is used to encrypt or decrypt messages (memos) when sending funds to other users. This ensures your messages stay private.
Question 3:
How do you plan to keep your master password safe?
Answer:
I take my account security seriously. That’s why I’ve stored my keys in several secure places:
A Google Drive folder with encryption
A printed copy, kept in a safe place
A backup on my SSD
Another copy saved on a USB flash drive
Having multiple backups ensures I don’t lose access, even if one method fails.
Question 4:
Do you know how to transfer STEEM tokens to another user?
Answer:
Yes, transferring STEEM is a simple process. Here’s how I do it:
Go to your Steemit Wallet
Click the dropdown arrow next to your STEEM balance
Choose “Transfer”
Enter the recipient's username
Enter the amount you want to send
(Optional) Add a memo
Click Next, then confirm the transfer using your Active Key
Once confirmed, the STEEM is sent instantly.
Question 5:
Do you know how to power up your STEEM?
Answer:
Yes! Powering up is important to increase your influence on Steemit. Here's how to do it:
Open your Steemit Wallet
Click the dropdown arrow next to your STEEM balance
Select “Power Up”
Enter the amount you want to power up
Click Power Up, then confirm using your Active Key
After this, your STEEM will be converted into Steem Power (SP), which helps increase your voting strength and curation rewards.

Through this achievement2, I’ve learned how important it is to understand and protect our Steemit keys. Each key has a specific role, and keeping them secure is essential to staying safe on the platform.
