Little Bit of This, Little Bit of That

I don't know what I was thinking when I picked up The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow. I'm aware that science and religion don't get along at the deepest levels. Many great scientists are atheists, but reading their reasons... somehow didn't sit well with me.

Hawking didn't bluntly deny God's existence but built a case that the universe can be explained without the presence or interference of a Creator. Some of his arguments or points were:

• The universe can create itself from "nothing" because of gravity.
• Quantum mechanics allows particles and even whole universes to appear spontaneously.
• M-theory proposes a multiverse with different physics laws, which means ours is not fine-tuned by a God but one among many possibilities.
• There was no "Before" because "Time" began with the Big Bang.

All I want to say is that we didn't even know about gravity until the 1600s, and in the Quran, God has already mentioned that He has created seven heavens and earths (interpreted as seven) and everything in between. He has created the universe and is expanding it. This was revealed in the 6th century, thousands of years before Newton noticed gravity or Hubble discovered the universe's expansion.

I understand the physics part, but how can we overlook The Writer of the Quran, who made all these laws work? With time, everything mentioned is proven right by scientists.

I love cosmology, but I'm also a believer, that's why despite The Grand Design being a good book and an easy read, it failed to wow me.

I didn't mean to write about this book. Just wanted to pop in and warm up my keyboard and let you(not that you are interested) know that I'm alive and enjoying my reading era. I set a reading goal for myself earlier this year which is 80% completed. Finally, some goals are going to be met. 😆

Other than that, I'm refurbishing my built-in china cabinet. I started this project a little earlier than planned. It was supposed to be an Autumn thing because right now the room is too hot for any activity. Let's just say, my bookmail got delayed, but the paints arrived in time.

There has been another birthday in the fam.... My little one turned 5 a few days ago. I don't know why I feel accomplished. 😅 It's good to see your kids slowly getting independent. He wore his shirt by himself that day because he thought he should be able to do it now that he is five. He also thinks 5 is a lucky number for him as he's been constantly winning Uno and Monopoly matches lately, and because he got great presents this time. We chatted about his good luck during the school run today.

Yeah, summer break is finally over and I'm sleep deprived today. It will take us a few days to fall back into the school routine.
