The ‘motley crew’ celebrated a birthday last Saturday. We agreed from the very beginning that there will be no presents. However, the birthday girl, or birthday boy gets to pick the restaurant he or she wants to dine in, and dines for free. The rest will chip in to pay for the bill of the evening. So far, that has worked out nicely.
Last Saturday, the birthday celebration was at ‘Jing Long Seafood Restaurant’. The restaurant is in Bedok central, on the ground floor of a housing block. The full address is 412, Bedok North Ave 2, #01-152 Singapore 460412.
Jing Long Seafood Restaurant started off as a humble ‘zichar’ stall at a coffee shop in Bedok in 1999. Customers like their signature dishes, and over time, the ‘zichar’ stall developed a steady stream of regulars. Through word of mouth, more and more customers found their way to the ‘zichar’ stall. Business was so good that they were finding it hard to accommodate the crowds within the coffee shop premises.
In 2009, there was an opportunity for them to take over a restaurant in the area. They jumped at the opportunity, and since then, they have been operating from that premises. So, they have been around for two and a half decades.
