Tell Your Story #40: The Power Of Perseverance
Good evening beautiful ladies, trust you all are doing great? I am here again to participate in the "Tell your story contest week 40" and I'm so excited to be here to share my little wins with you all. Firstly, let me appreciate our amiable moderator @ruthjoe who saw the light in storytelling and decided to engage everyone of us here by organizing this contest. Thank you so much ma'am, you're doing a great job and your efforts won't be in vain.
Last weekend, precisely on Friday 4th April, 2015. I was privileged to be among the matriculants of the 32nd matriculation ceremony of the University of Uyo, Uyo. The journey started few years ago but unfortunately after I secured the first admission, there was no money for me to resume school immediately and I was advised to defer the admission but since my instincts wasn't in agreement, I didn't do it. Since then, I've gotten lots of advice like "pick Jamb form again" and others and my response would be "give me money for school fees first so I could take this advice into consideration".
I did lots of jobs to be able to save up money for my education, marketing job, sales representative, cleaner, office girl and class assistant to mention but a few. I decided to pick Jamb form again last year and I performed well I'm the examination and was offered admission. I resumed school this year like every other students who were offered admission but I think there are slight differences between the other students and I which amongst many others are, I'm a self sponsored student so I wouldn't indulge in anything that will not add value to my life as a student and I work too to pay my fees so I might not hang around school after lectures to gist about irrelevant things with friends.
At first, it seemed we were not going to do the matriculation this semester because examination date was fixed and exam timetable released but a week to the examination, it was postponed and matriculation ceremony was fixed. I called my parents and informed them and they were happy for me, I also informed some of my friends. Finally, Friday came and I was officially welcomed into the University of Uyo, Uyo. Though my parents couldn't make it to the ceremony because of high cost of transportation fare, they still sent in their support and I was grateful for it.
Few friends came around and celebrated with me. It was the most exciting day of my life, atlas I got to further my education! I know this is just the beginning, greater things are coming and I'm ready to embrace every opportunity that comes my way despite the challenges that comes with it.
Lessons Learned
Delay is not denial: At the appointed time, God will make it right. Don't rush, trust the process because God has a better plans for you. When I first picked Jamb form, i wasn't sure of having good grades in school because my mom didn't allow me go for my course of choice so I later settled for a course that neither my mom nor I choosed. But this time, after talking to God and knowing what I'm passionate about, I'm certain that the future is bright.
Determination/perseverance is the key: I didn't relent after my first effort proved abortive, I still pressed on with determination that even if it's remaining a day for the world to end, I'll further my education.
Trust in God and His word: smiles, if you've ever doubt God, please retrace your steps. God can be trusted and I can boldly say it over and over again at any given time. Before my admission, I have my mom money (one hundred thousand naira) to start up a business hoping that before January, this year when I'll be offered admission, she'll make something from it but guess what? My admission came earlier, around November last year and there was no way I could ask my mom for the money because it was barely three weeks since I have her the money.
I urgently needed money to pay for my acceptance few to secure my admission so during one of my church service, one of our members testified of being financially favoured to pay her school fees and I tapped from that testimony and declared what I wanted. My ladies, I was financially favoured too and I was able to pay my fees.
I think I should stop writing because if I don't, I might write a book from this particular story and I don't want to bore you with long write ups though it's lengthy already. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed every bit of the story. Hope to see you on my next post but till then, take care of yourself my ladies. Love and hugs.
I invite my friends @bela90 and @jemilatbuhari to participate in this contest.
