SLC-S24/W6 - Powerful Debate | Yes or no/ pros and cons.
Do You Believe in Having Expectations and Setting Boundaries for Relationships? Yes

Let me start with a short story.
I once had a close friendship that seemed effortless. We shared everything, late-night talks, advice, even money when things got tight. I was always the giver, the one to show up. Until one day, I didn’t. I was emotionally drained, and when I needed her the most, she didn’t show up.
When I voiced my hurt, she replied, “But you never said you needed anything.”
That was the day I realised: love without boundaries breeds assumption. And assumptions break trust faster than words ever will.
Boundaries and Expectations: Pros and Cons
Let’s get real, relationships need structure, even the loving ones.
✅ PROS of Expectations and Boundaries
1. Clarity and Direction:
Clear expectations remove guesswork. They help both parties know what matters most and where the line is drawn.
2. Mutual Respect:
Boundaries protect your emotional health. They teach others how to treat you. Respect begins when people know what not to cross.
3. Personal Growth:
When you’re honest about your needs and limits, you give others permission to do the same. That’s how safe spaces are built.
4. Emotional Safety:
Boundaries reduce anxiety. You’re not walking on eggshells or overthinking every move. You know what’s okay and what isn’t.
❌ CONS of Expectations and Boundaries (if misunderstood)
1. Unrealistic Demands:
When expectations are too high or unspoken, they become burdens. People can’t meet standards they don’t know exist.
2. Rigidity:
Too many boundaries can create distance instead of intimacy. Relationships need flexibility, too.
3. Fear of Vulnerability:
Some people use boundaries as a wall instead of a bridge. That can lead to emotional isolation.
Final Thoughts
Expectations and boundaries are not tools to control others, they're tools to protect you and preserve healthy connections. The right person will not be afraid of your boundaries, they’ll respect them. And if someone leaves because of your expectations, let them. They were only there for your silence.
Without boundaries, people take.
Without expectations, people assume.
So yes, I believe in both. Loudly. Boldly. Kindly.
Because love without boundaries is not strength, it’s self-abandonment.
Congratulations!
