Getting married comes with responsibilities, and raising a family adds even more. Some people, especially in my community, don't understand this. Maurice and Donald have a daughter named Tracy, who is bright and takes her studies seriously. She enjoys it even more when both her parents are involved in her learning. One day, Donald came home late and, after a hug from Tracy, told her he was too tired to help with her studies. Tracy felt sad but was reassured by her mom that dad was just tired from work. This continued for three months until Maurice decided to talk to Donald about it. Maurice said, 'I've been quiet about your behavior. Even on weekends, you say you're too busy to help our daughter with her studies.' Donald replied, 'But I pay for her tuition, so you should help her study.' Maurice responded, 'Who said that paying for tuition means you can't help her with her studies?'

Donald: Why are you making this a big deal? Can't you help your daughter study? Can't you do it without me? Maurice: It's not just about me; it's about our daughter. Don't you see that she enjoys studying with both of us? Donald: I work hard to earn money for her tuition, so I deserve a break from studying with her. Maurice: Paying for her tuition doesn't mean you can't study with her. She just wants us both there. She's happier when we're around. Donald: These are shared responsibilities. This is your part; please take care of it while I take care of mine. Maurice: In this house, we don't have shared responsibilities. I don't know where you got that idea; it's not how we do things. Donald: I'm Igbo, so I know how these things work. I may have done it before, but not anymore. Tracy overheard the argument and asked her father: Tracy: I thought in marriage you and mom are one? Donald: Yes, we are. Tracy: So why share responsibilities? You should help each other and work together as one. You've done it before, so what changed?

●Among the mixed reactions of parents, is it only the mother's responsibility to educate the child? The father has no responsibility, and if the fathers avoid responsibility in this regard, So what kind of mentality can be developed towards those children?

Responsibility in marriage is not for one person. When two have become one, they work together to make things work. Who pay for tution and who doesn't pay shouldn't come up, all of these has so much to do with maturity and understanding.

From the above argument, the child enjoys the both parent's company when studying. She grew with it and that has helped her in studying so coming to tell her now that responsibilities are now shared among her parents would give her a divided mentality. She would begin to see her dad as an irresponsible man and would see her mom as the superhero. All through her life in that house, she would have doubts about this union called marriage.

Even if the father became busy at weekdays, what happens to weekends? He could create a time during weekend to educate their daughter at least that would instill into that child that "oh, daddy is busy with work, so I have to do it with mom alone now." And he can also have a talk with the wife about the recent changes.

Aside educating the children at home, all responsibilities are not to be left on anyone's shoulder. Nothing should be shared, the couples should have a talk on how things should be done and then decide on the matter and not the man telling the woman what her responsibilities should be.

●Where the responsibility of the family's success lies with the father and the father has to earn an income to handle all the details of the family, due to which the father cannot give enough time to the family and his child, is it right? Or if the father cannot take the responsibility of his child's education while earning money, is it right? What do you mean by that?

There is no excuse to this. It's simple, the father probably on week days and weekends to the best of my knowledge are times to get along with family, so the father can have a study time with the children on weekends.

Making money to take care of the family is something both couples do, it is not necessarily for one person, although society see it as the man's responsibility to do that as the head of the family. But where the husband isn't doing well in his job, the wife should be ready to up the responsibility. That is why this has to do with communication and understanding.

A father should contribute in educating the children, as there are things he knows the mother may not so as each team works together, they tend to their children's need., since they both made the children together.

●What is the most important thing in a child's education? Both parents should provide them with good education and study on time. In this case, can the child's education and progress improve? Or if the father does not pay attention to education, can the child achieve much more success in education only through the mother's education?

The key to a child's education is encouraging a love for learning and building important life skills like critical thinking and problem-solving, while also supporting their emotional and social health. Academic knowledge is important, but a child's happiness and ability to succeed are the most important. Children do better in school when they see their parents' support, whether from their mother or father; what matters is that both parents work together to provide a good education.
