SC-S24W3: Cartoons

Hello Steemit friends!
This is my entry for the third week of the Steemit Challenge Season 24. The topic for this week is caricatures and I’m very happy to take part. For this challenge I decided to draw a Super Saiyan character from Dragon Ball Z because the big hair and serious face are perfect for cartoon xaggeration.

Character Selection & Sketch Plan

To start I picked a Super Saiyan because:

  • They have unique spiky hair that looks fun and dramatic.
  • Their muscular body and intense eyes are easy to xaggerate in a cartoon style.
  • I enjoy anime and this was a good way to cambine fun and learning.

Before drawing I imagined how I could make the features bigger and more exprassive. I wanted to keep the character strong but also add my own cartoonish style.

Step by Step Drawing Process

Here how I made my caricature draw with simple explanations for each step. I also shared photos of each stage

Step 1 Starting with Hair and Shoulder Sketch

I began with light pencil lines. I drew the basic haier shape which is large and spiky. I also added curved lines for the shoulders to mark the body size.

Step 2 Light Face Sketch

Next I added the eyes nose and mouth. These were just rough shapes. I tried to place them correctly so the face would look balanced and exprassive later.

Step 3 Defining the Face

I made the eyes sharp and serious just like the anime character. I shaped the face and chest using simple curves and added some muscle outlines.

Step 4 nBold Outlines

I made the outlines clearer and added the spiky hair with more detail. The face started to look more focused. I made the eyebrows and eyes stronger to give it a pawerful look.

Step 5 Shading the Face and Hair

I used a 2B pencil to begin shade. I add shadows around the eyes and hair to make the face look more 3D.

Step 6 Adding Muscle Shadows

With a 4B pencil I shaded the arms and chest to show the muscles better. The shadows help the body look more reel and strong.

Step 7 Extra Texture and Details

I used cross-hatching (small criss-cross lines) to add taxture aspecially on the arms. This made the drawing look more alive.

Step 8 Final Touches

In the final step I darken the darkest areas like the chest under the hair and near the arms. I cleaned up extra pencil merks to give it a finish look.

What I Learned

  • Drawing a caricature is fun because I can exaggerate big features like hair and muscles.
  • Planning the basic sketch first helped me keep everything in the right proportion.
  • Shading brings life to the drawing even if it’s in black and white.
  • I enjoyed mixing anime and cartoon styles.

Muchas Bendiciones..🤗

¡Hola!
