This is my country.

INTRODUCTION

Greetings to all the members of this group, I always feel happy to be amongst you. First of all, I'm @destinedhanik and today, I'll be contributing on this beautiful topic: "This is my country". I'm a Nigerian abd I'll be talking on unique things that makes Nigeria a unique country. I hope you learn something from me.

MY COUNTRY: NIGERIA

Nigeria is in West Africa and it is the giant of Africa. Nigeria has 3 major tribes and over 500 languages. It has over 250 ethnic groups. It is the most populous country in Africa. Nigeria got its independence in 1960. It's flag is made up of two colours, green and white. Now let's look at what makes Nigeria unique. The capital of Nigeria is Abuja. Nigeria has 36 states. The official language in Nigeria is English.

CULTURE

Nigeria has a very unique culture. First of all, Nigeria has 3 major tribes: the Yoruba, the Hausa and the Igbo. Just like the tribe are different, their cultures are different.

• Yoruba: They are in the western part of Nigeria. They speak the Yoruba language and the men prostrate while greeting while the women kneel. Their major food is amala and ewedu and they are known for being highly respectful. The women wear iron and buba while the men wear agbada.

•Hausas: The Hausas are found in the Northern part of Nigeria. They greet the same way as the Yorubas. Their major food is Tuwoshinkafa, also masa. Men wear Baba Rigan or Agbada and women wear wrappers known as zani with headties and shawls.

•Igbos: The Igbos are located in the eastern part of Nigeria. They are known for their hard work and resourcefulness. They greet by shaking of hands and hugging. Their major food is nkwobi, abacha and ukwa. They also eat ofe awku and nsala. Their dressing for men is chieftaincy with trousers and traditional cap while the women wear native blouse and wrappers.

ECONOMY

Nigeria has the largest economy in Africa and it is a major oil producer. Nigeria exports oil and gas to different countries like France, Spain, United States of America, China, etc. Nigeria's currency is made up of 5 naira note, 10 naira note, 20 naira note, 50 naira note, 100 naira note, 200 naira note, 500 naira note and 1000 naira note. Nigeria is very rich due to its natural resources though the resources are mismanaged.

Nigeria also produce and export crops like cocoa, cassava, palm oil, maize, yam, groundnuts etc.

OTHER UNIQUE FACTS ABOUT NIGERIA

• There are 3 major religions in Nigeria: Christianity, Islamic religion and the African traditional religion.

• Nigeria has a unique film industry called Nollywood where they produce movies that reflect the culture and values of Africans.

• In the southern part of Nigeria, before a girl gets married, she is kept in the house separate and fed until she becomes fat so as to be pleasing in sight to her husband. During this period, she is also taught things that will make her marriage work. This is also known to a mother that just puts to birth too.
