Tell your story #41 | An Answer to Prayers

Hello, beautiful people!

How are you doing? The weather has been fair over here in southern Nigeria. While trying to retire for the day, my eyes caught some naira notes lying on the table in front of me and it took my mind back to an event that happened earlier.

My Story

I had barely enough money to restock my provisions for the week. So, I prayed to God to help me find a way. I am a believer and sometimes, when things get rough, I turn to God prayerfully for help.

It was not long when I got contacted for a work. A writing job precisely. My heart was overjoyed to receive this gig.

It meant that I could receive some money that could last for a week or less. That filled me with hope and joy.

In three days, the first draft was ready. I had to email my client a copy. After waiting for two days and no reply, I sent a follow up email asking about their thoughts and feedback.

When their message came in, I was told that the job had been transferred to someone else and they will continue from where I started.

It turned out that the person has someone who often does the work and for some reason was not available at that moment when they were needed. So, I got contacted. Now, when they returned, the task was transferred to them.

On asking for my pay, at least for the part I did the task, my request was turned down. I felt hurt because they breached their promise. Since this business , I decided to move on and not do anything that would ruin our relationship.

I was still worried about how I'd cope with feeding, transportation and other school miscellaneous when I received a news informing me that bursary had started coming in. The state government just sent in my bursary at the nick of time. I sincerely did not know what to do at that moment, whether to sing or dance. I did both, nonetheless.

Then, I thought to myself "Truly, God answers prayers". It happened that the money came in coincidentally when I needed it the most. I can only attribute this timeline to the creator whom I believe watches after me and provides my needs even when I have no one to turn to.

My Lesson

I understand that issues about beliefs can be very sensitive but that experience taught me something very important. Never to lose hope in the face of challenges. Whether you are Buddhist, Muslim, Christian or agnostic, I'd like to encourage you to keep believing and trusting that your faith will help you sail through every challenge. When help comes when you least expected, remember to share the stories of your victories with others to encourage them. Much love.
