Onion is a favorite snack in Bangladesh especially with afternoon tea or during Iftar in Ramadan It is a very popular dish It is usually mashed and tastes great Today we will see a recipe for making onion with some very simple ingredients.

Soak 1 cup of boot dal for 4-5 hours Onions 4 medium thinly sliced Green chilies 3-4 sliced Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon Salt according to taste Besan powder 2 tablespoons optional Mustard oil or white oil for frying to make the onion mashed Cumin powder ½ teaspoon optional to enhance the taste.

First soak the dal in water for 4-5 hours or overnight this will soften the dal and make it easy to grind Drain the water from the soaked dal and grind it to a fine or medium grain There is no need to grind it finely If you keep it finely, the onion will taste better While grinding the dal do not add too much water to it because the onion will be better if the mixture is thick.

Mix the chopped onion green chili turmeric powder salt gram flour powder in the batter If you want you can add cumin powder it will give a nice aroma Mix all the ingredients well and cover it for at least 10-15 minutes so that some water comes out of the onion and the mixture mixes better.

Heat oil in a pan The oil should be medium hot If it is too hot the outside will be over fried but the inside will remain raw Wet your hands or use a spoon to scoop a little of the mixture and drop it into the hot oil It is best to keep the onion in small round shapes It is better not to put more onions in the pan at a time as this can reduce the heat of the oil Fry each onion on medium heat until it turns red and crispy When one side is done flip it over so that all sides are fried evenly When the onion turns a nice brown color remove it from the pan and keep it aside to absorb the excess oil.

Serve the onions hot Mix coriander leaves with tomato sauce or mustard and serve with a special chutney If you want to eat it with tea sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and serve it If you want the onions to be crunchy you can use rice powder or a little cornflour To enhance the taste you can add a spoonful of dry chili powder or sour cream You can use an air fryer to fry them in less oil or fry them in a pan with light oil I hope you liked my recipe Everyone stay well and stay healthy Thank you.
