Recentemente un paio di amici, piu' o meno della mia eta', sono stati operati in ospedali del torinese.
Operazioni non invasive ma non siamo piu' giovanissimi ed occorre prestare molta piu' attenzione di un tempo alla nostra salute.

Entrambi hanno usufruito pienamente del servizio sanitario nazionale, non hanno pagato nulla.
Io stesso che ho una leggera asma allergica, ogni 3 mesi mando una mail alla mia dottoressa che mi prescrive un broncodilatatore e un antistaminico, mi arrivano le ricette via mail ed in farmacia non spendo nulla.

In Europa, soprattutto in Italia, pur con tutte le storture, abbiamo un servizio sanitario nazionale che funziona e ci aiuta.
Nulla e' stato scontato, niente e caduto dal cielo, ci sono voluti anni di battaglie sociali per ottenere quello che fondamentalmente e' un diritto inalienabile.
Paghiamo le tasse e una parte di queste (troppo poco) ci ritorna in servizi.

Negli Stati Uniti le tasse sono piu' basse ma se non hai una assicurazione privata ti tieni il malanno, magari muori perche' non hai potuto permetterti delle cure adeguate.
Se hai un incidente l'ambulanza prima di soccorrerti guarda se hai una polizza assicurativa, in caso contrario o ti lascia per terra o ti porta in un ospedale "statale" e poi Dio sa cosa succede.

Da noi abbiamo uno stato che ancora si ricorda che esistiamo, tutto sommato non siamo soli anche se si potrebbe fare molto meglio. Negli Stati Uniti sei solo come un cane, o hai un reddito che ti consente di permetterti una polizza oppure sono tutti cazzi tuoi.

NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE

Recently a couple of friends, more or less my age, were operated on in hospitals in Turin.
Non-invasive operations but we are no longer very young and we need to pay much more attention to our health than we used to.

Both of them have fully used the national health service, they have not paid anything.
I myself, who have a slight allergic asthma, send an email to my doctor every 3 months who prescribes me a bronchodilator and an antihistamine, I receive the prescriptions by email and I don't spend anything at the pharmacy.

In Europe, especially in Italy, despite all the distortions, we have a national health service that works and helps us.
Nothing was taken for granted, nothing fell from the sky, it took years of social battles to obtain what is fundamentally an inalienable right.

We pay taxes and a part of these (too little) goes back to us in services.

In the United States the taxes are lower but if you don't have private insurance you keep the illness, maybe you die because you couldn't afford adequate care.
If you have an accident the ambulance checks to see if you have an insurance policy before helping you, otherwise it either leaves you on the ground or takes you to a "state" hospital and then God knows what happens.

Here we have a state that still remembers that we exist, all in all we are not alone even if we could do much better. In the United States you are alone like a dog, either you have an income that allows you to afford an insurance policy or it's all your own business.
