Trees On The Edge Of The City
I put my newspaper on the table. There were many news stories of people fighting over chairs. I wondered, what was so special about it? They didn't sit in those chairs forever. Besides, when they got their chairs, they automatically got responsibilities that they might not be able to bear. Rather than having a headache thinking about it, I'd rather go for a walk.
It seemed like my headache was getting worse, how could it not be? The streets were chaotic. Vehicles snaked along, horns honked at each other, sometimes I heard curses for the vehicle in front to move quickly. Annoyed, I traced the origin of this chaos. There was a fallen tree lying across the asphalt. There were several workers trying to remove the tree. And there was also a traffic policeman trying to clear the traffic. With my limited strength, I helped the workers. So that the drivers would no longer suffer on their vehicles. And also stop raping their horns.
I continued my walk. This time my destination was clear, a large tree area on the outskirts of the city. There I could find peace in this absurd life. The tree seemed to radiate an inexplicable energy. When I was very “budrek” with this life. I came there. Listening to the cool breeze blowing through the leaves and the birds singing enjoying the day. After that I would fall asleep there until I woke up by myself.
With this tree still there I am very grateful, because this city still has a reserve of fresh air. So when someone feels like they have inhaled too much exhaust fumes, they just come here and take a deep breath to exchange the pollution for oxygen.
Today I was so surprised, the tree that I considered my second home only had its trunk left. There seemed to be several people there, I asked them. “Why was this tree cut down?” one of them answered, that this tree was suspected of being haunted and a nest of demons. “How do you know?” I asked. From a shaman he said. I shook my head hearing that. “Stupid!” I cursed in my heart. In this era that is said to be the era of globalization, there are still people who believe in cheap superstitions like that. This time confusion came to me, where else would I find this worldly peace. I stared at the birds flying. Poor thing, their house has been destroyed just because of the stupidity of this koplo man.
My eyes looked around the city, looking for any trees left in this city. Nothing, there are only concrete trees in this city. I decided, today or tomorrow, I will move. I will bring all my belongings. Except, one thing. The bringin saplings that I planted behind the house.
