Incredible India Monthly Contest of June#1 | Old Vs New!
Hello Everyone
Whether we realize it or not, intergenerational comparisons are unavoidable. Especially if we compare traditional behavior and ideology with today's children.
I see comparisons between the past and the present arising from a deadlock in mindset. Parents hope that their children can live the same life as in their time. In fact, times have changed. Parents can no longer force the narrative; "Our time is superior."
In fact, we must know that we have lived and breathed different air even though we still live in the same place. Changes in nature are also one of the causes. These changes can be in the form of technology, social living space, world order, and others.
Referring to these conditions, I think this debate competition is very interesting to further explore these perspectives from various elements.
1. Share the things that you believe were best in past, but now have been changed.
In the past, our lives were simpler and could not be far from nature. People spent a lot of time with their neighbors, either in the form of certain meetings or in other outdoor activities.
We also know that community life is strong. Social life with neighbors supports each other. In the past, we lived in strong social ties, mutual cooperation was not just a word, but a spirit of life. People helped without being asked, because a sense of belonging was natural.
Now, everything is different. The fast-paced digital world today has reduced that. Although technology offers many benefits, it also has negative impacts. This impact is what then makes individuals increasingly focus on themselves, thus ignoring interaction. This is what becomes the gateway to the fading of traditional values in some activities.
Maybe, not all changes are bad. But in the midst of the pace of time, it's good for us to look back occasionally, not to regret, but to remember: that the best past can be a compass for the future.
2. How do you define old is gold?
The phrase "old is gold" contains a deep meaning about respect for age and experience. Old age is not just a number, but a symbol of a long journey full of lessons, life tests, and wisdom. Parents are a source of values, knowledge, and broad views. Like gold that becomes more valuable after being forged by time.
They hold a cultural heritage, ethics, and stories that become the foundation for future generations. This is what must be passed on to the next generation. All their experiences and life knowledge truly become guidelines and role models for the younger generation.
In the midst of a modern world that often worships the young, fast, and new, this expression reminds us that not everything old is obsolete. In fact, in the calmness, resilience, and contemplation of the elderly, irreplaceable values are stored. Respecting them means caring for the roots and maintaining the direction. Because, in a healthy society, the elderly are not a burden, but a priceless treasure.
3.Discuss some points why changes are needed for a better future!
Change is not a threat, but an opportunity. In the midst of a world that continues to move, we cannot survive with the old way of facing new problems. Global challenges such as the climate crisis, social inequality, and the digital revolution demand fresher, more adaptive, and progressive solutions.
Without the courage to change, we will only be trapped in old habits that are no longer relevant. Change gives us space to improve the quality of life in education, health, and social systems and avoid stagnation that kills thinking power and creativity.
More than that, change is a form of intergenerational responsibility. We live in a world inherited by those before us, and we will also inherit it to the next generation. A more just, sustainable, and humane world will not be created by waiting, but by moving.
By opening ourselves to new values and adjusting old systems that no longer support the common good, we are preparing a future worthy of our children and grandchildren. So, not only is it necessary, change is a must.
