Old Vs New!

Oh! How I crave the good old days! When we were not this smart but understood happiness. When words like woman were easy to define. When kids were children and adults were parents and I could drink rain water without getting poisoned. A carefree and authentic era when social norms were simple and most people found contentment playing their roles. With a huge wall separating the concept of good and evil, that world in itself was not perfect but was far better.

✓ Share the things that you believe were best in the past, but have now changed.

In the past, parents, being the more mature members of the family, set the rules; they would set the rules based on personal, religious and locally accepted norms. Today there is no norm. And the loud voice of the inexperienced is heard negotiating the rules, standing on their right to be heard.

Morality was a guide, suggesting that certain actions were acceptable, attracting praise while others were not and labelled as taboos and abominable. Actions that were frowned upon are now labelled as smart. Curtesy is weakness, and prideful arrogance is cherished. Morality as a compass is broken, and no one can be wrong these days. No need for correction, only acceptance and no shame.

✓ How do you define old is gold?

My grandfather is old, but his advice on relationships and healthy living is gold. I believe that we still have great value in some old things. Consider a typewriter, it's old, but if you need a higher level of information security, try using this system; it has fewer vulnerabilities. Try hacking into a typewriter and see how successful that would be. It is old and is gold.
I do cook with gas. But last week, I was rescued by an old technology, a traditional method of cooking. It provided the needed heat, saved firewood and was so comfortable. I made a post about the fireplace.

✓ Discuss some points why changes are needed for a better future!

Based on our current trajectory, this path would likely lead us to a state of anarchy. There is serious breakdown in law and order, social, religious and political decay. With such a rapid decline, we need some drastic changes for a better future. We can hold on to our technical advancement but look into the past for a better structured living. We are having too many rights this days and it is driving us insane.
Rights were in place to protect the weak and vulnerable. But today, those who were weak have stood on those rights, now standing tall, they have become the oppressors, wielding the law to their advantage.
We all gave up some rights so as to live together as a community. We really need to give up some of the excess rights we have today, for a better tomorrow.

✓ Conclusion and Invitation

Don't get me wrong, I am not too attached to the past, a luddite or a romanticizer of the past. I am only feeling nostalgic, looking at a lost world in the past and hoping we could improve it without changing it so badly.
I'm just worried that the so-called fruit of the knowledge of good and bad took so long to digest and is now being absorbed into the bloodstream of humanity. Adam may have ingested it, we are now digesting and assimilating it. Our knowledge is an overdose and is threatening us all.
Now I am extending a warm invitation to @okere-blessing, @ruthjoe and @eliany. I would love to know what you think about the subject. Please participate in the conversation lets hear your thoughts by participating in the contest.
