Old vs New: Some Things Should Have Stayed the Same

Hey friends, I bring warm greetings to you all

Have you ever just sat down and thought about how some things in life didn’t really need to change? Like, not everything that’s old should be pushed aside just because something new came up. Honestly, I feel like some things from back in the day should have stayed the same they had their own special magic that we don’t really see anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against moving forward. Change is good, sometimes. But I’ve been thinking about it lately, and there are definitely things from the past that were simply better. In this post, let’s talk about the things I miss from the old days, what I believe “old is gold” really means, and why, even though I love some old-school vibes, I still agree that certain changes are needed for us to move forward.

Let’s gist. 😊

Things That Were Better in the Past

Let’s be honest not everything has improved with time. Some things from the past were just better, no debate.

Music

First on my list is music. Old-school music used to touch the soul. It wasn’t just about dancing and beats it was about stories, feelings, life lessons. You could feel every lyric. These days, many songs are just noise, full of empty lyrics and unnecessary repetition. I’m not saying today’s music is completely bad, but there’s a reason why old songs still hit hard when you hear them. Play a 90s jam or an old gospel song now, and I’ll still sing along with my full chest.

Family and Community Life

Another thing I truly miss is family life and community spirit. Back then, you didn’t need to be related to someone to care about them. Everyone on the street was your aunty or uncle. They could correct you if you misbehaved, and your parents would even support them! But these days? Everyone minds their business. People now live in the same compound for years and don’t even greet each other. It’s like we’ve lost that natural bond we used to have. The world now feels a bit colder.

Food

Let’s not forget food. The food in the past was fresh and real. People went to the farm, bought from local markets, and cooked with natural ingredients. Today, it’s all about fast food, instant meals, and processed snacks. There are chemicals in almost everything now. It’s no wonder diseases that were rare back then are now everywhere. I honestly miss those simple, natural meals that filled both your belly and your soul.

What Does "Old is Gold" Mean to Me?

When people say “old is gold,” I always smile because I know exactly what they mean.

To me, old is gold means that some things from the past are priceless. They may not look flashy or trendy, but they hold deep value. They stand the test of time.

For example, think about hand-written letters. These days, we all text and chat online, but when someone writes you a letter, you treasure it. It shows effort, it shows care. That’s what makes old things golden. It’s not just about how they look, but the meaning they carry.

Another example is old family traditions. Some people now think they are boring, but those little things like sitting around with family to eat together or visiting extended family during holidays those are the memories that stick with us forever.

So yes, old is gold because it reminds us that not everything new is automatically better. Some old things are still worth holding on to.

Why Change Is Still Important

Now, let’s not act like we should stay stuck in the past. As much as I love old-school life, I fully agree that change is necessary.

Technology Has Made Life Easier

Imagine if we still had to send letters and wait weeks for a reply? Or if we still queued under the hot sun to pay bills? Technology has made life faster and more convenient. Today, you can pay your bills, order food, or book tickets right from your phone. Even connecting with people across the world takes just seconds now. That’s progress.

Education Has Improved

Education is also way better now. Back then, if you missed school, you were left behind. But now, you can learn almost anything online. From YouTube to online courses, knowledge is now at our fingertips.

Health Care Has Advanced

In medicine, things have improved too. Some sicknesses that were dangerous before can now be treated quickly because of modern equipment and drugs. People now live longer because of better healthcare services.

So yes, change is important. Without change, we would still be stuck with difficult, slow, and sometimes dangerous ways of living.

Finding the Balance

The truth is, life is not about choosing only the old or only the new. It’s about balance. There are some old things we should keep, and there are some new things we should embrace.

The wisdom is in knowing when to hold on to the past and when to move forward with the new.

I personally believe we can enjoy the best of both worlds. Let’s keep our old values, our respect for family, our love for real food, our beautiful traditions. But let’s also accept new technology, modern medicine, and the positive changes that make life easier.

Let’s talk

So now I’m curious do you sometimes miss the old days like I do? Or do you prefer the fast, modern life we’re living now? Or maybe you agree with me that we need both?

Let’s gist in the comments. I’d love to hear your take on this.

You are very right, we have really lost things. This new life has changed a lot and we can't help but grow into it. Neighbors are separated with a barrier, where as people were so free to share food with their neighbors.

I even saw a video of a parent harassing a teacher because she flogged her daughter, taking my mind to how we were in school, you will be flogged mercilessly, and you won't even complain because you know it is for your good, your parents might even add to the beatings

The world has really changed but we have to adapt to it.
